Thanks again bongripz216
Yea my thinking was a free 10GB is a free 10GB lol,
As it turns out I did everything exactly as the tutorial told me, everything was working great (formatted the drive, copied my C and E to it) but when I came to lock it I got the message "Error - this drive does not support the ATA security spec" so I guess the drive cannot be locked which is a shame. Is there any way of getting round/fixing this without having to install a mod chip?
I didn’t think about this much at the time but when I bought my second hand xbox it came with an official DVD dongle (the guy had lost the remote but I have one anyway) so I have a spare DVD dongle. I am wondering about hardwiring it into the console? I read a tutorial that involved using a 4PDT 12V relay but this looked abit too technical for me, plus one of those would cost me money below is a diagram ive drawn up of how I think I could do it –
Would this work? (I haven’t connected the yellow wire as I don’t think the dongle uses it?)
What would happen If by accident I had the dongle switched on and used a controller in port 4 at the same time? Would it harm the xbox?
Any tips/suggestions?
Thanks.
O and still waiting for any information regarding the HHD activity led in my first post

Got a set of clips off youtube that will show you step for step how too wire your hdd light.
Cheers wes213 those youtube vids are very useful, never thought to look for xbox help on youtube.
Another question now lol, on my xbox currently I have leds in the controller ports but want to put some in the jewel and windows. Ive gathered that the best place to draw power from is the red and black wires going into the HDD (5V) but just how many leds can I attach here in parallel with each other? I want to attach maybe 8 / 10? (the leds are 3V and im thinknig 4 in the jewel, 2 in each window?), Would this be too many? Would it effect the HDD?

Wow your really starting to pile them in thare but hay its just leds right.
If you got the spare cash i wold go with this for your jewel http://www.cyglo.com/ and if you dont want to put out the bucks then thats cool to your case will hide the hot glue and as for the pull on the power i woldent think to hard on it i have seen a lot of lights hooked to one box in my time.
As for the glass windows, leds wont put a whole lot of light but then again you dont want it to blind you while you play, if your like me you want that shit to burn your eyes out your head in this case you might want to try this http://www.crazypc.com/products/8247R.html i put them in my xbox and boom lights up the room and thay come with an on off switch, made mine shine http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt21345.html mines at the bottem just to show light out put and keep in mind the pic dosent begin to show how bright thay are.
Once again the power will be fine kick out a bad @$$ box and post it man

Thanks for the help all
Here’s are quick update of what’s happening now…
Internal dvd dongle…nope. Just thought id try out the spare dongle before I took it apart to mod but discovered it was dead…so I took it apart anyway to try and solve the problem, but couldn’t find anything so am leaving it.
Usb port…nope. Ive decided against this as it would mean cutting the case (which would then need re-painting as im a perfectionist like that lol). Also I have no intent on running linux on this xbox and don’t think I would really use it.
HDD activity led…yup! Got this working now which is great, just choosing a colour now. Think its going to be red.
LEDs in dvd, HDD windows and jewl…yup! Got blue 3mm leds in them which im pleased with, just got to get a resistor to attach them to the HDD power wires.
Once it’s all done will put pictures up and more information.

i know its money but it will solve a couple of the probloms you have its a usb hub you can get a 4 port usb and wire it in and have it wired to the mobo and from the 4 port hub you can have one port go to the controller 1 port go to the dvd dongel and 2 ports go to the back or ware ever you want for key board and mouse i use a 4 port on mine but h use it external and i can plug a key board a mouse a controller and a flash stick in all at once so i know it will work and as for the yellow from my understanding its just for light guns but you can keep it wired to the controller port just put the 4 port hub between the mother board and the controller port it shod work fine
