Many forums List the Focus Chip as being a 1.5 I Jhave come across tons of focus chips That Has The lpc still grounded. I know im not discovering anything new because realccloy mentioned it in a recent post. The Only way To determine Which one you have to to check for continuity between ground and the lpc. But not everyone has a fluke or DIMM so I would like to share some info that has been useful to me on the days I accidently left my fluke at home. Along side the left of the lpc are small resistors. 1.4's are labeled as the following from top to bottom"R7D3,R7D5,R7D8.
1.5's are labeled as the following from top to bottom"R7D4,R7D5,R7D8.
I have not yet been fooled by this method but dont rely solely on this method. It has been consistant so far but we all know M$ They like to trick us and change things to keep us hard at work. lol well thought I might add this since I cant do anything with these three 1.6 boxes that are sitting here pissing me off.(IF wondering what im referring to check other post) I might as well post those pics of the 1.6 install that DOESN"T WORK!! LOL

My apologies. Fluke Is the name of a brand of electronic diognostic equipment. As for DIMM I was going to type out digital But went for the abbr. version but forgot to remove the I. So Actually I Mean DMM, or as we call them digital multimeters. As for the parasitic flatworm you mentioned? will it get rid of the ulser that has developed following the three 1.6 xbox frags. Because If so I'll trade you a FLUKE for flatworm. You wouldnt happen to know why my box is fragging only when trying to boot to M$bios and not to modchip now would you? any help or info or even a wild guess would do right about now...

Last night I was modding a 1.4 xbox and I used the old check for continuity between the #2LPC hole and ground..well, I had continuity..so I assumed it was a 1.4.
Wrong...
After I modded it the chip wouldn't light up... I wasn't fragging or anything..it was just like I didnt have a chip in there. So I added the two extra wires like it was a 1.5 and she lit up.
So, I'll have to try your little method and see what I get.

after checking for continuity on the xbox, and then after you installed the chip. did you check for continuity between the ground and the pin that connected to the chip? maybe it wasnt completely grounded hence the reason the chip wouldnt boot. Then after you installed the ground jumper and 3.3 jumper it worked because it had two sources to recieve it from. Just a thought.

Yeah, I checked for continuity after the install too..that is why I was so thrown!
The first thing that I thought of was the ground was bogus. I checked for dark solder, and then tested for continuity and all was good. I even desoldered and resoldered, but still had no joy.
So, in essence, I had a machine that was telling me it was a 1.4 but I had to chip it as a 1.5.
Leave it to me to find the exception to the rule! Last week I got the snot knocked out of me. Between fragging 1.6's, Standby resistor blowing in a 1.6, and a 1.4 wanting badly to be a 1.5, I totally filled the cuss jar! Dude, I was even making up new cuss words!

I wanted to get some lower priced mods for my shopping cart, but don't want to leave from the Xenium Ice chips so I just bought some 1.1 mobo's. The guy I got them from was even nice enough to solder pinheaders in them for me!! I think I am going to build a machine from spare parts...at least I know it won't frag on me..HA.
Damn..I probably just jinxed myself.
