Ok so ive had a xbox since they first came out and love it. I have been looking at modding my xbox for awhile. I just recieved a psp 2.71 ta-082 and am running 3.02 oe-a. After doing this i realized how easy it was to do the mod and have been doing it for tons of ppl around here. Well i have a v1.0 and v1.7 xbox. Reason i have 2 is that my 1.0 the laser went out in it a long time ago and i always get the disc read error and didnt want to throw it out cause planned on modding it just never got around to it till now. So my question is.....
What should i do??
~This is what i want to do- run a new dvd drive, add new hdd, play games off hdd, run homebrew, and thats pretty much it.
1.Dvd Drive- I want to run a new dvd drive so i can atleast play originals off disc. I have thought bout fixing my thompson, but id rather upgrade it and not worry bout it again. So i was thinking the samsung i belive that is the best or a pc. I know for a pc i have to leave the other one hooked up and thats ok cause im goin to be adding external hdd's so i can fit it into the case.
So should i soft mod, or mod chip? This is for the v1.0. I have been lookin at mod chips and was set to buy one then i started seeing more on softmodding and when i first looked into this way back when xbox was first out there wasnt much goin for it but looking on it now there seems to be alot to do. The only other thing is since im goin to be doing so much to the internals anyways (also switching case) should i go ahead and add the chip so i have the ability to lock hdd's for the 1.7? i plan on only softmodding that one. So any input?
Also any advice on mod chip with my ideas in mind? Plan on running evo-x and this is goin to be moved around alot will be like a media center, and will also be placed in a car which is reason for storing games to hdd, but will also be storing dvd's.

Let's start simple;
1. Replace your DVD drive. (Phillips seems to last the longest, with the least problems.)
2. Download a copy of AID3.10
3. Choose your modding method. (Softmod or chip.) Both offer alot of the same features.
"If you are planning on multiple HDD's, definately use modchip method. It's just easier." I recommend Xecuter3 CE.
4. Mod your box to your hearts content.
We are all here to help and offer advice once you are sure which way you want to go.

Ya i was thinkin of the executer 3 but also was looking at a few other executers like the 2.6 ce and the smartxx. I dont know if im goin to run multiple hard drives now that i found out i can use all of the hdd instead of the 137gig's or what ever it was cause i have a 350gig Seagate sitin here waiting. I think i am goin to mod with a chip cause wont i need one to add a new dvd and add hdd? Also then anything i need to chip for my 1.7 i can do so i can just softmodd that one. As for dash i think ill prob run evo x. Any ideas on which chip i should get?

on the V1.0 i suggest the 3CE with an Xapt3r, with the new 250GB seagate, after you instal the chip, pop in the drive, pop in AID disk, and format, its alot harder with a softmod
