Is there anyway to upgrade harddrives in a soft-modded xbox without a mod chip installed, or an additional hard-modded xbox All of the tutorials i have read require 1 of the 2. I saw one tutorial with hotswapping (havent been able to find it again). Which method involves using a windows startup disk? I dont have a floppy drive so i bought a USB Flashdrive to do it, but Windows Vista doesnt allow me to creat a ms-dos startup disk. If someone can help it be awesome. Maybe at least direct me to a good tutorial? Or anything else helpful? Thanks guys!

Using a 4-pin molex splitter, Chimp clones your original drive that you have in there to the bigger drive, all from within the Xbox.
Thats how I did mine.
Bare in mind though, it won't work with a v1.6 Xbox.

So lets say i had a 250gig hdd i wanted to install using Chimp. Would run CHIMP from the soft-modded xbox. or do i have to hook up both the stock and new hdd at the same time? I dont get it ! Please explain more. I have AID3.0. Will the version of Chimp work? Are there any tutorials to using CHimp? Would i need a splitter for the IDE cable also , or just the 4-pin molex splitter for powering the new hdd?

So then i should still back up my C and E folders to a computer right? Does the chimp program lock the new hdd? Any more information about using CHIMP would be appreciated. I want to make sure i know what im doing before i do it! Thanks

If you have AID, you can launch it from there. Alternatively, you can install it as an app on your Xbox and run that way.
Now, what you'll need to do.
Use a molex splitter on the power going into stock HDD and share with new HDD. This way both HDD's have power. Now, loosen the IDE cable from the back of the DVD ROM drive, but don't remove it fully. Now boot Xbox and run Chimp. Once program has started, remove the IDE cable from DVD and put into new HDD. Follow the on screen prompts and menu's to clone the stock drive.
This process will copy everything, including your eeprom etc. Once the process is complete, you can lock the drive using one of Chimp's menu's, then power off the box. Remove the original HDD and wire up your new one, then bingo, all done.
If you wish, you could now ftp copies of your data to your PC, just to be extra safe.
