ok got a version 1 box auto installer soft. about one out of three games won't work. some were working last I knew and even with installing new ones or re-installing them only certain ones will work. this is my sons xbox so not real familiar with what might have changed but he's not the type to play around with the files. just wondering if anyone had any ideas as it is really hard to get too much from lately. I would hate to lose all these and am not looking forward to pulling them all off to reinstall the soft mod so any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. thank you all.

if you have already deleted x,y,z and your E/Cache folder, then try making sure that your time and date settings are ok. Also make sure that you didn't erase the actual folder, but just the contents. Hopefully this should solve your problem.

oh by the way even the disks themselves won't work for the games that don't work. don't know if that'll help.

It could possibly be that you have a Thompson DVD drive and it's starting to have problems, Thompson's are most likely to fail and are the most tempermental.

If your DVD drive doesn't read them right, they will not backup to your HDD correctly. Thus they will not work.
You can try cleaning the laser on the drive with a Q-tip and alcohol. If that doesn't work, I would suggest looking into getting a new DVD drive.
I found this place that stocks rebuilt Phillips drives... $29+ shipping, including the xbox dvd face plate.

It's worth a look.

ok started on that drive idea yesterday and replaced it with a known good samsung. same story. I do appreciate all your help but can't see where it's the drive as I have them all backed up to a spare 250 gigger external also. and tried transferring them via ftp. I dunno maybe it's just time to rebuild, just trying to get out of all that extra time.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why don't you use dvd2xbox to back your games directly into your xbox?

I hope this is not dead - if so I will post a new one I guess.
I am having exactly the same problem as chuckche. I have a 1.4 xbox with kernal 5035 dash 5960. Has been Xenium SPice gold modded with evox (bios and dash) also have run X2 5350 bios and unleashX dash. and I cannot get two games to play on it with or without the chip installed, modded with any bios or dash from the cd or hard drive - ripped witha varity of tools. I have a 1.4 xbox with kernal 5713, dash 5960. I used the same modchip, bios and dashes and those two games will play but two others will not. I have a 1.6 (assumed - not yet opened- still has a warrenty on it) kernel 5838 and dash 5960. It will play all 4 games with no problem what soever. all xboxes play bunches of other games, from cd's and hard drive so it is NOT the thompsons. That was my first thought i do admit. at this point the only difference I can discern is Kernel versions. I am currently looking at nkpatcher 9, 10, or 11 thinking maybe it may be used to make a difference. But I am fairly noob and have not yet started to experiment with it. Not even sure it will do what I am thinking I need. Anyone with any more info / ideas / questions I will be pleased to discuss. I am nearly stumped. Does xbox live push updates to xbox's. I am dial up and play offline only. Have never had any of the boxes online. the 1.4's are bought used and refurbished from ebgames. The 1.6 bought new.
