Hello all, I have myself a problem. I have a V 1.4 xbox, with a broken motherboard. No idea why but it doesn't work. I have another motherboard, which is not matched, or locked, to my hard drive. Therefor when I boot with my new motherboard, it turns on but I get an error message. I need serious help here from the xbox gurus. My machine is not moded in any way, all stock, but with a new unmatched motherboard. I need to know what I can do to make this work. I don't need any of the normal mod features, all I want is to be able to use my xbox normaly, preferably without buying another matched set of board and HDD. I'm looking for the best way to solve my problem, preferably with the lowest cost. I've looked around in tons of sites and forums, but I don't understand what much or the lingo means, so if someone could explain it to me that would be great. Thanks for anyone who can help. If it is gonna take a big post, you could also e-mail it to me. spider_kyle@hotmail.com. Thanks again.

that or build an eeprom reader, then u can lock it with the mobo, but chip is the best way to go!

what after that? Can I just use any mod chip? and what do I do after that? will it automatically allow me to boot with any combination of mobo and HDD? I really don't know what I'm up against here.

If the HDD is locked from a different motherboard it will be useless untill it is unlocked with the eeprom.bin from the original motherboard. Once unlocked, if you have a modchip you can lock it if you intend to play it as a retail unit.
A modchip will allow you to change your HDD, replace your dash, copy your original games to your HDD so you can play them without wearing out your disks, etc... It's worth the investment.
I personally prefer the Xecuter3 CE, it's one of the best, but a little expensive @ $55 USD, but you get what you pay for.

If your soldering skills are excellent and the motherboard versions are the same you could swap the eeprom chip. But I would still recommend the eeprom reader over swapping the chip. If you overheat the chip or short it out while soldering you could end up with two dead boards.
