I've been trying without success to set my ftp username in XBMC.
It's set to "None" - the only entry in a drop down list of usernames... I imagine there's a way to write a real username into a config file somewhere, but I don't know where... I've peeked into all the .xml's that I could find, to no avail.
It's frustrating, but my xbox can see my windows box perfectly via SMB, but my windows and linux boxes can't login to my xbox. Without switching to Unleashx or DVD2XBox...
