know nothing about xbox's and am having some problems with the one my son has (it was modded). i can't get the xbox to enter the 'programs' section of the main menu. it will not play discs either. i think that maybe MediaCenter was used to copy the games.( that is what the main screen shows, anyways. )for the bios, it says 256kbios.bin. the dash is an evoxdash.xbe and the chip is a SmartXX. I don't know if this info is relevant or helpful, but i thought i would add it anyways. if anyone can help me i would be greatful. oh! it also says that the xbox needs serviced. what does that mean. I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!! thanks

So is the xbox just going to the error needs serviced screen? if so what error code is in the top left corner. if not is it loading into evox? Do you have the AID disc?

if i insert a disc, it shows the "needs service" screen. but if i just turn the xbox on and try to enter the 'programs' section of the menu where the games are, it just sits there and does nothing. i can go into all of the other screens (i.e. settings, videos, music, etc). but the program tab will not open at all. at one point it showed an "incorrect tdc or toc" message. no. i don't have a disc with it. how do i tell if it is loading into evox? -i am illiterate when it comes to all of this! sorry!!! and thank you for responding

GOT AHOLD OF THE GUY THAT WORKED ON THE XBOX. HE SAID THAT IT HAS 1.5V BIOS, HE USED THE PROGRAM DVD2XBOX, AND IT IS A DUO X 2 CHIP. WHEN I WENT INTO THE C/ DRIVE ON THE XBOX IT LISTED THE OTHER INFORMATION THAT I GAVE. COULD THAT BE CAUSING A PROBLEM? THIS STUFF IS WAY OVER MY HEAD. PLEASE HELP BEFORE I GO BALD!! someone correct me if I'm wrong but this sounds like it may be a problem with the bios. wouldnt flashing the chip with a new bios solve the problem?

Version 1.5 xbox and Duox2 chip i use that chip and have a 1.4 i have no problems with duox2 chips so it will most likley be software. DVD2Xbox is a program to copy cds to the xbox hard drive for like backing up music and games and other stuff. have you got XBMC on the Xbox? Sounds like the programs folder links got a error on it or sumthing dvd drive umm is it not playing any type of disc. One other thing the IDE cable to the dvd drive mite be loose as a modded can run without the dvd drive but when your trying to use it, it mite be working 1/2 and then you get error. Had look for "incorrect tdc or toc message" on net and only come up with table of contents. Think the easyest way would be to reinstall the evox dash on the xbox or replace it with XBMC and if that fixs it sweet if not check you dvd drive cables.

ok. it started to play a game that was in the drive but then it quit. that is when my son got mad and says that he deleted a game from the xbox. now we are having all of these problems. the two are probably related. he said that it would never play an audio cd, though. so,,, i don't know.
but anyways.when i turn on the xbox, it shows media center home, so i guess it is installed on the xbox.(i have never connected the xbox to this computer and don't have any kind of related software on my pc).
at the bottom right there is a little yellow button that i went to and clicked. under system info, it shows the network type as 'static', no link, no ip address, no scripts. -unfortunatly, i don't know if it had any of those things when it was working. umm when i select the 'dashboard' option, under that same yellow menu button, it goes to a service screen with error 21; which it wasn't showing before. so does that confirm your idea that the software is shot and needs to be re-done? if so, how do i reinstall that evox thing? what kind of programs should i have? will i loose the games that are stored on there or is there a way to back them up to my pc beforehand?
i am sorry i am so full of questions! i am just so new at this!!! but i REALLY REALLY do appreciate your help and your time.
