hmmm... How old is the drive? You may have killed it. Could have been at the end of its life span. Try hooking up to your computer and see if it works there. _________________ Xbox v1.6

Shouldnt be locked since its an aftermarket 30gb hdd, although even if it is formatted for xbox already, you can still plug it into your pc and see if it powers on and the cmos should detect the drive, you just wont be able to see any files. _________________ Xbox v1.6

i just read quite a lot about maxtor hdds. It appears that they are not the best choice. A lot of people's maxtor comp drives crash.

17gb should be fine. You maxtor was probably just ready to die, with making those noises. _________________ Xbox v1.6

Search and you will find just as many compliants about WD and seagate, it happen all over.
If the drive works, great, best way to find out is to test _________________
