Ok i just put in a new maxtor 30 gb HD in the xbox.. the hard drive itself makes quite a lot of noise. Like i can actually hear the thing spinning. Does anyone know whats wrong with it?

while i was in this drive, my brother pressed the power button two times really quickly. Now the hard drive is not even RUNNING! i am getting error 7 msg.. help !

found the drive in my basement in a computer. It's 30 gb, maxtor, 7200 rpm. It is not working anymore. Question Question

Code 07 is a hdd timeout. Check all the connections ide/power cable...

hdd is properly connected it stopped RUNNING. i mentioned before that it was working making a lot of noise (running) until my bro flickered the power button on xbox...

hmmm... How old is the drive? You may have killed it. Could have been at the end of its life span. Try hooking up to your computer and see if it works there.

that wont work as the files are xbox and its prolly locked, but i do believe its dead my friend! Luckily i have never had this problem! need to buy a new 1 anyway its probly OLD

Shouldnt be locked since its an aftermarket 30gb hdd, although even if it is formatted for xbox already, you can still plug it into your pc and see if it powers on and the cmos should detect the drive, you just wont be able to see any files.

well i did put it in a computer and powered it up but its not getting detected? is there anyway to fix the drive itself?

i just read quite a lot about maxtor hdds. It appears that they are not the best choice. A lot of people's maxtor comp drives crash.

17gb should be fine. You maxtor was probably just ready to die, with making those noises.

Search and you will find just as many compliants about WD and seagate, it happen all over.

If the drive works, great, best way to find out is to test

get a seagate hd cos maxtor are known for dieing i had 1 in my pc and it started to make noises and then it just died on me
