Ok, is it possible to change the menu names in xbmc? I really hate using My This, My That naming schemes. It drives me nuts. Would I need to create my own skin, or can I just edit the menus like I can in UnleashX. Also how would I start music playing from the boot of the dashboard? without having to select anything?

Try grepping through the skin files for the string and change them, manually. They may be hard coded into images though, can't say for sure.

If you want to play your own choice of music on the boot of your xbox you first have to convert the music file which you are going to use to WAV format. After that, burn it to a blank disc as data and insert it in your xbox. When inserted, go to "my files" then THE E drive and go straigth to the xbmc folder, in that folder there is a sub folder name "media" in this folder you must copy your music file then name it as "start"
But before you do that you must fist move the file which is already in the media folder which also has the name "start" to avoid conflict. Move it to any other folder or just make a different folder to place it in. When you restart your xbox the music file that you copied to your xbox will be playing as the xbmc logo goes off.

By putting the instructions in the autoexec.py you can do anything you want at startup, including playing entire playlists, not just a single file.

Sample that I'ev used:
Code:
# auto execute scripts when xbmc starts, place this file in xbmchome\scripts\
#
# note: - do not execute more than one script at a time which asks for user input!

import xbmc

xbmc.executescript('q:\\scripts\\launchstream.py')

launchstream.py:
import xbmc

# by josselin from startupsound by alx5962

file = 'q:\\scripts\\playlist.m3u'
pls = xbmc.playlist(0)
pls.load(file)
player = xbmc.player()
player.play(pls)

is there a way to get the blades to default to a certain folder? What I would like to do for example is set it to where as soon as I click on videos it automaticaly looks in a certain home network folder instead of having to browse to it.

Thanks for any help
