when attempting to flash the bios it freezes at "erasing". this happens from the AID disk and from evox. i have a x3 v1.6 and want to flash to a bios with large hdd support. the x3 also has protection disabled.

The same thing happened to my X3, maybe its something with the chip.

However, why aren't you using the X3 3294 bios? It is incredibly powerful and would let you enable larger HDD with a few button presses.

I don't think evox/AID flash (evox) have flash support for the X3. What bios do you have currently?

The X3 3294 bios already has large (>137Gb) hdd support, you just need to enable it.

For the X3, an X3 bios really is the best way to go. Its loaded with features, and is easy to use Smile

evox 3935 i believe, here are a few syptoms i have noticed aswell. in evox settings now the bios is unknown, when i hold down power and open it goes to a burgundy screen(i believe thats due to having component hookups though) also, bios checks make read the chip as unknown. i had/have the m8 v1.6 but it wasn't patched for larger hdd, the lb???(sorry not infront of me) wasn't found. this is what started me on this whole thing.

my end goal is to utilize the entire hdd basically. flashing has just become a bit of a problem.

I've got a lead on how to flash the x3 with evox, I'll test it tomorrow and if it works I'll post it up here.

If you want to get the 3294(which is recommened by mee and roo ), try connecting the composite cables(can't confirm the HD thing). Get into your backup bios the same way you did last time. Set the dip switches to on on off off and network flash with the 3294 bios. reboot and hold the white button on your controller. You should now be in the greatest featues of the chip, the X3 config live screen!

ok, will do tomorrow. thanks for the help. it's 4am here and i have work in 5 hours lol.

one last issue that might be of importance. my 1mb banks might be corrupted. they flash the power on/off a few times then it stays on with no picture and the lights flashing. if i remeber correctly i can still get into the back up bank though so i will dig out my original cables and go from there. thanks again.

The main thing is that you don't ever flash anything (other than flashbios) to your 256Kb backup bank. This is so you can reflash the main banks if they become empty, corrupted etc.

BTW, the power on-off cycle. then frag sounds like an empty bios bank. As greven said, boot the backup bank (power and eject buttons), and re-flash the main bank with the X3 3294 bios, and you'll be ready to go Smile

well i'm good to go so far, thanks for the help. i was able to flash the x3 3294 bios and adjust for the larger drive just fine.

one more issue though. i have a 250 gig maxtor that i had laying around. when i hook it up to use it, it seems to just hang and keep spinning. i can't get into the bios menu or anything. does this just mean i can't use it on my xbox? i have tried all variations of cable select i could with the same result.

edit:
to further your knowledge, the cables were in fact the reason for the burgundy screen when trying to flash the bios. i went to the local game stop and purchased some oe ones for $4 worked great.
