Posted: Fri Aug 04, 2006 3:14 am Post subject: Is it possible to do an hdd swap to replacement xbox?
My modded xbox w/x2.3bpro, mobo is dead. No Pwr, at all. I got a 160 gig hd, with all my game saves, and other data. And of course I dont have the c/e partitions backups, nor eeprom.bin, nor hdd key, to unlock the drive. I read about a way to jtag the eeprom and pull your hdd key that way. But since I will be getting an xbox tommorrow, from a friend, and I am thinking of using the modchip from the old box. I used slayer, to install dash, and all. My question is, can I mod the replacement xbox, and still use the 160 gig hdd, even if its locked, and have access to my data. Would I have to format, the drive and start over, or do I need the hdd key? Is this even possible? Thanks for any replies
P.S.
I already looked into hddunlock program, tempting, but I guess would be my last resort, and use hdd as pc drive only.

What version of xboxs are they? The the PS's are compatible, try pulling the good one out, put it in the bad box, and see if it works. If it works, then the at least you can get you eeprom or use configmagic to unlock the drive for you.
Other than that... sounds like you might need to use one of those programs.
Alternately, I've heard that for some drives, flashing the firmware will unlock the drive, no idea how reliable that is though. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

i already tried swapping psu, motherboard is dead. Will it hdd work with other modded xbox?

What verion mobo is it?? If it's a 1.6 you could always try replacing the standby resistor.
This is a small resistor that keeps the Xbox in standby (powered off) until the power button is pressed.
If you don't mind losing your data, I know of a way you can restore the HD to original factory conditions. I just had to do it on a locked 200GB HD, but it beat buying a new drive
Very easy to do. Just connect the HD to an IDE cable in your computer and run the program. I had to disconnect my DVD burner to give me the extra connection, but was extremely easy to do. Took about an hour for the entire process to run, but when it was all said and done with my drive was unlocked!!! Worth the $19.99 I paid to have it unlocked! _________________ Xbox 1.4
