I have installed tons of these chips. You can go both routes, but you need to purchase a solderless adapter if you wish to install without soldering.
I have the SmartXX 1.6 Spider Solderless adapter and I have a standard solderless adapter too.
It depends on what version mobo you have. This will dictate what adapter you can use. I always keep some solderless adapters laying around in the event someone needs their HD restored.
To be honest with you though, if you are looking into this caliber of chip you may also want to look into the X-Changer Version 2.5. It has a little bit more powerful of an OS versus the LT OPX flavor. And, it is the same price if not cheaper by about 5 bucks! _________________ Xbox 1.4

You can use the universal solderless adapter for that chip, a friend of mine just installed the SmartXX LT OPX along with the universal adapter.. Man, that's one sweet chip for the money, i thought about modding another Xbox with that baby. _________________ Xbox V1.3
