Anyone ever have trouble getting CHIMP to run?

I've got everything ready to go on my XBOX for a new HD:

1. Softmodded using SplinterCell;
2. XBMC Installed and network configured for FTP
3. AID used to install CHIMP
4. Proper HDD
5. XBOX is open and both drives are plugged in, but for the IDE which is still properly in the DVD player

I go to run Chimp, and it freezes at the very beginning on a Linux Copyright Screen.

Thanks fellas,

If there is any other necessary info that I am forgetting to put down, please let me know.

Update:

The AID Deluxe disk has Chimp 2.6 in it's "advanced setting" menu - that runs when I load it. But I can't unplug the DVD player that way.

Must be something with the install?

You install chimp on the stock HDD then run it from off the stock hdd not the aid disk.
Then unhook the ide from the dvd drive and plug it in the new hdd. Wink

Hey wes, thanks for the reply.

I know to install Chimp to the HD - I have done that. I go to run it, from the HD and not the AID disk, and it freezes on the Linux copyright screen.

Later, however, I was looking around at all the options on my AID disk, and under "advanced" options, there is a "run chimp", version 2.6. That's what is in that menu - but The version installed is whatever version came on the AID 4.10 build, without any update packs. I assume it would be the same.

Anyway, when I run CHIMP from the AID advanced menu, it runs fine; the same Linux screen that freezes when I run it from the HD flashes very quickly, and then it goes straight into the CHIMP menu. So I figure this narrows the issue down, but I am not sure how.

It wont run as an app from the HD.

It will run from the AID disk.

Other apps run from HD just fine, at least XBMC and some iso's that i extracted with craxtion.

I will post later with the CHIMP version once I get home.

Thanks,

Teflon

Clear out your E cache folder and X,Y,Z, folders if you have them and reinstall chimp by unpacking the aid iso on your desktop, FTP the chimp app to your xbox apps section and try it again man. Wink

didnt work. I dont know, should I completely start over?

If I use AID to backup my MS and EEPROM wont it backup the current exploited one? I do have the originals saved on my HD.

So close, yet so far away.

Sorry mate,

What I did:

1. I deleted the cache on the E drive
2. deleted chimp
3. did not clear out the x,y,z folders, as I dont have them or didnt find them.

Then, through the FTP, I went into the AID disc which was in the xbox (XBMC was running) and copied two versions of chimp on to my desktop:

1. /D/Apps/Chimp <-----(folder)
2. /D/Files/Apps/Chimp.zip

The first one is the one which is a run-option on my AID disk; the second one is, of course, the zipped one from the install apps menu.

After preparing the XBOX as you recommened (above), I put the "chimp" folder, extracted from chimp.zip, into my E:\Apps folder. I went to run it in my XBMX dash, and it once again froze on the linux copyright screen.

THen I deleted the cache again, deleted the just-installed chimp folder, and went ahead and put the #1. chimp folder into my E:\Apps folder. I ran it, and the same thing happened.

Am I making a grevious noob error by trying to install them like that? I mean, am I missing something? The AID puts the same folder with the same 4 files ( default.xbe; initrd; linuxboot.cfg; vmlinuz) in the apps folder.

When doing this, I noticed that in my file manager menus, in both AID and XBMC, each drive is listed twice, on both sides of the manager. So there are 2 E: drives on the left and right, 2: F drives, 2 Q drives. However, there are NOT doubles listed when I explore it with flashfxp. Maybe I've somehow done a double install?

No man in xbmc it will do that from time to time, dont know why but you can select the second one in each list and remove source.
2 C drives then remove theC drive #2 and so on.

What did you set the new hdd jumper too and was the hdd new?

The HD I am hoping to replace the original with is a used 250gb maxtor. I do have the jumper to slave. Does the HD need to be new?

However, I havn't even gotten it plugged in yet as Chimp is being difficult.

I think tomorrow when I have time Im going to redo the entire softmod process and try Chimp again.

Did you notice me doing anything wrong in my install process from my prvious post?

The bios is fine but the hdd needs to formated to fatx and if you used it in a pc then its going to need to be blanked or formated to fatx.

OK, I'm trying to load CHIMP off of the AID 4.20 disk... it turns my TV green, but the IP address is all messed up...

my xbox is set to 192.168.2.102 when I'm in XMBC... but when I load the AID disk, the IP is 192.168.0.2 (which my router won't see as being correct)

When I install CHIMP to my HD, and load it from XBMC, there is garbled stuff on my TV, but it doesn't go to green.

I've tried to TelNet in (1.6), but it just won't go... someone please help!

I don't have a desktop right now, or I'd just xboxhdm the thing... so I have to chimp it, but chimp isn't working Sad Sad Sad
