I want to softmod my xbox, for obvious reasons. I'm not comfortable with hotswapping, firmware hacks or anything like that due to my lack of experience. I have no interest in destroying my xbox and computer by doing something wrong. I don't have an action replay or any exploitable games. So the game exploit thing is out of the question, unless there is a game other than the three that everyone knows of ( 007: Agent Under Fire, Splinter cell, and Mech Assualt) that can be exploited. In that case i'll simply make a homemade action replay, it seems simple enough. From the research i've done it appears that i'm pretty much screwed, but if someone can help me i'd appreciate it. If not thanks for taking a little bit of time to read this.

Hey there,
for starters as you said, softmodding is probably the easiest way to mod your xbox, when all of this is new to you.
That being said, softmodding requires the use of one of the exploitable games (MechAssault, 077 AUF, or Splinter Cell), and a hacked gamesave (softmod installer). These games are pretty cheap now, so you should be able to pick one up for around $10. To my knowlege, these are the only games that softmods are designed to work with.
As for the Action Replay, if you don't want to buy one, you can make one yourself, using a USB flashdrive and a USB to Xbox cable.
And finally, for the softmod I would recommend using our very own Softmod Installer Deluxe, as it is the most up to date.
Once you xbox is modded, I would definitely recommend using the Xbox-HQ Auto Installer Deluxe Disc, which is used to automatically install replacement xbox dashboards (e.g. EvoX), applications such as Xbox Media Center, DVD2XBOX etc. and a host of game console emulators e.g. Nintendo64, Super Nintendo, Atari etc.
