I have a hard modded xbox(chip:aladdin no idea what version, software: evox 2.5 slayer auto installer) that works fine but lately the dvd rom hasnt been able to read any disks, or im getn the dirty disc error screen. So i bought a new phillips drive and i placed it into my xbox. The IDE cable and the yellow cable are secure but is there a flash that i can use so I dont have to re-modd my xbox with evox. I had a thompson and swithched to a philips, and my Thomspon was in my xbox at the time I moddded it. The error number on the top left of the screen is 08. I'm sure all cabbles are connected properly. But does this have to do any thing to re flashing my xbox or do i have to back every thing up then load evox again. The led on the middle of my xbox flashes green and red and i get the error meessage saying that i should send my xbox to customer support in green. I'm guessing i have to back every thing up from my xbox hdd to my pc. Then re-install evox and then dump every thing back to my xbox hdd. Is that what I have to do, If you have any idea what I'm doing wrong or suggestions to help me plz reply. THX for reading.

make sure your hard drive is set to cable select and that the ide and power cable are connected all of the way. You dont have to reflash a chip when u change the dvd drive. Also error code 8 - kernel - No HDD found

I find it odd that it didn't give you a 07, which is what typically happens when the hdd cannot be contacted.
I've had an 8 error before, and what had happened was the partition table had become corrupt, and I ended up having to format and reinstall everything. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Let my start of by thanking every 1 that cared and replied. All my cable are as secure as can be. When i place my thompson drive my xbox works fine, when i put my new philips the xbox logo starts up then error number 08 comes up.If any 1 has any idea whats going on or any suggestions I would appretiate it. Ouch. Sounds like that drive might be defective and isn't allowing and communication past that point in the cable.
I double checked with a buddy from work that was a computer tech, and if the master device on an IDE cable isn't working,it can cause the slace device to not be detected.
I would say that the drive is pooched, may want to get a second opinion though _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Dude thanks for really careing dude. I was woundering I dont think that the dvd rom is defective b/c its factory sealed and the mptor eject works perfectley fine. I agree with what your friend said its obviously something to do with iether drive not being capable to transfer data to my hdd or I need to upgrade my IDE cable with 1 thats faster maybe. My main concerne was the posability of having to reinsall evox on my xbox. <------------------------can you make sure thats not the case b/c my cousin had installed it for me n I dont want to do anything wrong.

You have a duff philips drive..It's also possible you have dislodged the chip when changing drives. Try the tommy again and see if you get a normal boot, if so then if you feel brave try adjusting the laser.
There isn't any point messing with the philips drive. It's a failed board..Get your money back on it.
Just for info.. Llamma has a sale on with the Samsung dvd drive at $59
THIS IS WHAT SOM1 REPLIED TO ME ON ANOTHER FORUM CAN THIS BE THE CASE OR IS HE WRONG, IF SO HOW DO I LOCK MY HDD. THX

Like I said, I think the one is dead, and you might be better off trying to fix the original. Those are good tutorials, and can't hurt on the old drive.
