WD has been vary good to me. I have never had a drive go bad for me. Maxtor and seagate used to be good. had a seagate hdd go bad and im in the same boat

sorry to hear of all your prob's mate.....
i've been using Maxtor for the best part of 10 years now and i've never had a prob with them, The two i have in my comp now i have had for 4-1/2 years now and Thay are still going good.....
but it has been said that any HDD over the size of 120 Gig's can be prone to have problems......
that's why i will never use one bigger than 120 Gig, if a customer want's one bigger i put in two 120's if thay want bigger than 240 Gig i do put them in but at there risk cos i will not replace it if it goes WRONG....
so mabe go for a smaller one mate.....
P.S. I just put an 80 Gig Maxtor in my Xbox and it took no more than 15-20 min's And it's Quick and run's V-cool You must of got bad one.... (was it recon or new) _________________

Personally, I've never had any trouble with either Maxtor or Seagate (some xbox stock 10Gb HDDs are Seagate) drives, in xboxes and PCs.
As for the 1st post, I know your p***ed off, but please try and make an effort not to swear too many times, it makes us look bad.
And X-S man, I wouldn't bother going back there at all if they are so much trouble etc. etc.. BUT, on the other side of the coin, if the same clown kept popping up here after being banned, I'd probably get a little annoyed as well. _________________

Well I think I know why it crashed...I had old bios and it put all my drive space in F So I think thats what started it...I also wrote a large letter (not mean but firm) and it seem to work, but we will see. I don't know about the drives but wow it crashed so fast it not even funny. They said yes it does, but do I beleive them...no I didn't thin or know about that but wow man. I paied 80.00 bucks spent 30 some hours getting all the files and dash just the way I like it and bam I have to pay them another 30.00 for a used one. So I paied 110.00 for a used drive....not 80.00 for a brand new one. No even tell you what happen when I order my first HDD for outpost.com. I call them up paied 60.00 for a 200gb maxtor I told them 3 times PATA..they sent me a $%@#$ SATA. Called them up...nope out of stock will never get them back in you have to pay 80.00 first for another one and then you have to pay shipping for the old one (which they mess the order up and said sorry) and waited a month for the refund. Yup getting this HDD was the worest mod I ever did. I have spent more time in shipping and on the phone then the HDD was ever in my xbox. I love seagate HDD`s and hate maxtors ( the one`s I`ve used were to slow for me).
I have six Seagate HDD`s in all and only one WD ( I also find the WD to be to noisey )
Loosing your data sucks but then any hard drive is quite sensitive obviuosly the faster & higher density they are the more sensitive they are.
I`m not joining the other side of your war BTW, I just think it`s worth pointing out that if seagate give a 5 year warrenty, They must belive their drives are good for that - unlike microsoft`s get stuffed if your game is faulty, we don`t want to know policy.
Mind you though, I`m funny when it comes to my hdd`s, My dyson isn`t allowed anywhere near them nor any other big magnets of any sort.
Also MAIL ORDER?? are you nuts? think about that, I`ve seen hundreds of couriers looking for the right parcel in thier vans, throwing others around whilst they look... I go to the shop and collect them myself - I won`t have it any other way.

I have done many installs in my modding days. The highest fail rate in regad to HDs has definitely been Maxtor. When I first started modding I used Maxtor exclusively because they had the best warranty, in terms of length. Not to mention they were inexpensive. I am guessing I was dealing with approximately a 20% fail rate.
Needless to say, I stopped using Maxtors unless the customer insisted. However, I warned them of my experiences and informed them that if any HD failure came about I would not be able to assist them. I lost way too much money paying for HD shipping fees back to Maxtor to send back the defective drives. I also told them I would have to charge them a $20 fee to format the new drive because it literally took me 3 hours to load up everything that I used to install.
I haven't had any big time issues with Seagate though. So can't really complain about them. _________________ Xbox 1.4

DAMN! that f****** sucks, why don't you just back up all of your data to the pc. Then you can just put all the apps. back onto the new hd. Well i got a MAXTOR 500 GB HD and have no problem wit it so far.

I ahve an apple laptop..with no DVD burner. I had 50 gb on the HDD and only 40GB on my laptop. I tried zipping and burning to CD-RW..but I have 4 dics. But I lost my games..thats lots of time wasted. As for the HDD I read seagates are one of the best and maybe I was just unlucky..but wow they shaft you for thier bad product. I do agree that the merger is going to screw us over as far as consumers. Perhaps seagate will be smart and adapt the old maxtor policy, but I doubt it.
I, personally, am Running three diamond max HDD's (one 120, and two 250's, a 250 and a 120 in my main machine, and a 250 in my server) and a WD tank (it's about 4 or 5 years old) which is 65 gigs in my xbox. I had to replace two of my Maxtors via RMA, but they sent me brand new drives as the problem was very rare. They both failed hardcore. Come to find, it was just the IDE controller on my Mobo, so technically I got one for free because i never returned it after they sent me the last one, lol. And they never charged me... Nice people they were.
I know why they never charged me.... It was a week before the merger, I guess I got lost in the database transfers, lol. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Yeah...I am really not knocking the product..just how they treat us the users. I wouldn't even be that mad if they would just give me a new one and keep them in stock for the ones that go bad. If you want to run a business you always have stock for the ones that good bad.
