On the upside of the lid, theres plastic prong things? Around it is the metal, theres 4 tabs, just bend one of 'em back on each one and you should be able to pry it right off.
use a heat gun on the back of the jewel to get the jewel off, and not sure about how to do the coloring..

If you want to keep the silver xbox letters and paint the rest blue, probably the best thing to do would be to use masking tape and cove the front and sides, then spray with Krylon Fusion paint. They have a couple of differint colors of blue: See here for colors

Remember: several thin layers of paint is always better than one heacy coat.

Pretty much. I've bought fusion at Walmart, auto body stores, paint stores, hardware stores, etc.

I just use a hobby glue gun like you can get at craft stores, or in craft section at walmart. Some guns are hotter than others. I just got a cheapie small gun that uses the small sticks. It's a little hotter than the last gun I got which gives me slightly better results.

yeah you might want to use a glue gun or a glue that wont eat the paint that you just put on the jewel.

Never use crazy glue or modeling glue. The glue chemically melts plastic and paint and will destroy the effect your going for, at the minimum discoloring your paint.
