ok well im not a total newbie well i know what im talking about, so i deleted some files awile back on my harddrive so then i read into it and am trying to use xboxhdm. i tried one spare harddrive i had and everything worked fine but the xbox wouldnt read it because it wouldnt lock, and i dont know how to lock it, its a harddrive from the store not a xbox hard drive. also i have my locked xbox harddrive that i cant unlock because i dont have the eeprom. i heard about hotswapping and ive tried it several times and it either doesnt read the hard drive or the drive is still locked. this is what i do to hotswap. i turn the xbox on and as soon as the error/redlight comes i unplug the ide cable and plug in my computers then i turn on the computer. ive also tried doing this at the time xboxhdm loads and pause/break the computer before xboxhdm loads and pluggin in the harddrive then letting it go. none of this is working so if you could answer my few questions that would be great.

If Im not mistaken, you have to start with the HDD in the PC not the xbox. _________________

thx alot you guys but after like 3 hours of messin around i finally mastered it. i was doing it without the tv too. this is what it did: i turned on the computer and almost instantly it the pause/break. then i turned on the xbox with the dvd ide cable unplugged causing error 12. well the xbox only took 4 seconds to read the error so i unplugged the harddrive ide cable right as the xbox's light turned red and then plugged into my computer and continued. this worked pretty well at least 1 out of 3 times it worked
