"The Aladdin XT as with original Aladdin Live works fine with 1.6A, but with 1.6B a switch is needed on the XT."
4 questions about this.
When you reference "a switch" are you referring to atattching a switch to the programmer/xt setup?
Does this "switch" setup work for XT 4064's?
Does the write-protect on the 4064 get bypassed with the switch?
Where are the instructions for setting up the "switch"?
thx for any help, I really want to use my 160 gig harddrive!

Hi guys, I've installed over 30 aladdin xt chips and I get about 40% v1.6s I have a couple of problems (esp frag conditions) but most have been due to wires - so first check them. Then check the bios on the chip - although your pretty screwed if you don't have the external programmer at this point (if it is stuffed) though. Aladdin mentioned http://www.aladdinlive.com/mod/ in respect to the programmer, if it doesn't detect your chip go there. The best install diagrams I have found are at http://www.x-mods.co.nz/tutorials.php?tid=31 and http://www.x-mods.co.nz/tutorials/aladdinv16.pdf which also shows the orientation of the chip when in place.
Some tips :
Connect D0 on m/board to D0 on chip. But if you choose to connect it to ground, all screw holes through m/board are grounded.
On v1.0 - v1.5, There is an alternative D0 point on the underside which I always use and I think is easier to solder to. Then I feed the D0 wire and the Hdd wire (L2) through the unsoldered holes in the LPC and up onto the chip - very tidy! - I have included a pic of the point but you can double check this point is connected to the usual D0 point with a multimeter.
Hope this sorts out some of the problems ppl
Cheers Dan

Hey Aladdin, in what direction am i supposed to put the chip onto the pin header on the mother board? is there a picture of a mounted aladdin live+ somewhere? Another thing, do i need to use a special kind of wire for the D0 point, or can i use the one that came with the chip?

xbostin, thank you. Your solution solved my problem. Connecting the DO point on the motherboard to a ground point was just what I needed to do. It works well now. Now all I gotta do is install a switch so I can use original TSOP also. Thanks again,
-Dave.

Use the bios on www.aladdinlive.com/mod for your 1.6, it is easier to use the flash ISO in XBHQ downloads to flash the chip. You can also see an image on the page of how to place the chip.
