whoops how comes whenever something says danger dont press this button u end up pressing it anyway??? I was messing around with config magic and thought it would be smart to unlock my hard drive now it jyst comes up my xbox needs service - its a softmod 4.5 aid 3. i know its probebly useless but is there anything which can be done to either a) revive it or b) salvage the hard drive and maybe the dvd rom (phillips) and put it into my new crystal xbox with a thompsons dvd drive and is it worth it???

thats the first thing i tried then i tried splinter cell to no avail it wont read anything im gonna have to open it up me thinks?

Hopefully you have backed up your eeprom to you pc. You can use xboxhdm 1.9 to lock your hdd. If you don't have a back up, your only choice is to chip your box.....sorry there is no other way around it. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

nope didnt back up eeprom to pc cos im on a budget. if a chip will sort it out thats cool ill get one did get a replacement xbox cos i cant live without one!!! thanks problem solved i guess then

Since you have a 1.0 version mobo, a solderless chip will work out perfectly for you. The LPC holes are still filled in with solder so it makes contact really nicely.
I recommend a fourth gen chip that has a built in OS. From the OS menu, you will have some HD options. Just choose lock HD and it will take care of the task lickety split!
If you can pick up a Xenium Ice or SmartXX chip from someone who's unloading one semi-cheap...you can find universal solderless adapters at a very nice price. Who knows, you may just find one off of someone real cheap too.
Be careful of some of the older X2.3 solderless chips though. I have seen a lot of people scratch up their motherboards with the D0 pogo pins. They designed that chip to fit versions from 1.0 to 1.5 and the top D0 is located in two different spots depending on what version mobo you have. Some people don't realize that they should put a piece of electrical tape over the pogo that they are not using, and when they move the X2.3 into place the pogo will scratch a trace or two on the mobo....creating a FRAG condition.

yeah that sounds good cheers. couple of quickies im running unleash have u got a good link to sum skins and if so where abouts do i put them on the hard drive and secondly with my soft mod working xbox could u suggest any interesting apps or sumthing different i could do for fun? cheers
