Ok, Im following various guides to network up my XBOX to my PC, ive changed the IP address and subnet mask on my ethernet card, plugged the other end of the cable into the xbox and turned that on. Ive checked the IP adress etc on the xbox itself and thats all fine, yet no connection is being picked up. My PC just thinks the cable is unplugged.

Anyone got any idea what Im doing wrong?

EDIT: am I using the wrong kind of cable? Whats the difference between a crossover cable and a normal cable that you run between your PC and say a switcher or hub?

Ok the cross over ends should not look the same. so hold both ends up next to each other and if the colors match to a T then you don't have the right one. if they look completely drff then your on mark. Now you should have a green light that is soild and a flashing red light on the back of the X-box if the connection is good (from your PC to the box)

Sorry to double post here, but I wanted to drag this back to the top with another quick query.

Ok, ive got it networked directly to my PC, but lets say I wanted to add the xbox to a hub and connect it to a home network. How would I go about doing that? Would it be a case of plugging the crossover into the hub? But wouldnt that mean changing everyone's IP address/file type and buggering up everyones network connection?

Sorry I couldnt see a tutorial on this, may be its just not possible!

Once you connect the xbox to the hub/router it should give it an IP address if it doesn't keep the same one.

you need a regular straight cable to go from the xbox to the hub, then a cross over cable to master connect your computer to the hub. as for the ip addresses im not sure, i dont work with hubs and shtuff, i have 2 NIC's and a sysco systems 350 wireless internet card in my machine connecting me directly to the dish on me roof Cool
