I've softmodded my box, is there any way to still use it for Xbox Live? I thought I read somewhere that you could switch back to the regular xbox dashboard and it would work with xbox live without getting banned. i love having the mod but i would hate not being able to use Live, can somebody help?

Theres various ways around it..
With SID 3.0 etc you can uninstall the mod at anytime and revert back to the M$ Dashboard like normal but then you will need to reinstall the softmod again later once you want to play your backups and emulators.
With SID 4 and 4.5 i believe it uses a stealth mode and hides the mods from XBOX LIVE.. You may want to ask more about that version..
I only use SID 3 etc at the moment coz most of my friends dont have LIVE.

i'm still new to all this, so forgive me for not knowing, but what is SID and how can I get those versions with the stealth ability?

SID is short for Softmod Installer Deluxe. It is an easy installer gamesave and launcher that enable you to easily modify your xbox gaming console. No sweat broken and no stress unless you don't follow instructions. You can find SID 3 and 4.5 in AID download. There is a torrent for it in the downloads section here. Just run ur fav. bit client and once it is done, just load get the SID 4.5 splinter cell game save and launcher in there and read the .pdf manual for installation. Its very simple and easy to do. Just read that, and it will explain most of it. Make sure to read please, before asking a question because its not worth typing again if it is already right in front of you. _________________ Moddingbandit

hi dtfreak05 well what you need is sid 4 as told before . what it gives you is dual boot funtions so for say you power it on normal and it load up the modded xbox and your circle led will also turn red indicating the mod is active but if you power it on via open tray then it will load up the ms dashboard and the circle led will turn green indicating that the softmod is deactivated and safe for live
sid 4 and 4.5 have many more features that are explained here
hope this helps oh well i wasnt going to be back but i guess not all of our members are willingly to explained detailedly
i also encourage you to burn aid 3 as its a very useful tool for your xbox needs . such as uninstalling the softmod properly in case you didnt back up the ms and it has tons of apps etc etc .
just lock your hard disc and reboot your xbox,then you should have no problem playing live

my hard disc is still locked, i never unlocked it because i didnt want to get in over my head lol. thanks for the advice guys!

i'm using 2.0 right now...is it easy to make the change? and do you have a link to a guide on upgrading or something? also, when i looked at all the files contained in the torrent, there were lots of them and it didnt appear to be clear which files i am supposed to use for what

oh yea its easy childs play so sid 2 , did you do create ms back up before you started to install the softmod? if no then we need to get that aid disc working or we can ftp your choice .
if you have sid 2 you and you backed up everything before you modded it then you can restore it then erase the linux files and put the new sid 4 or 4.5 . or you can run aid 3 and overwrite it via aid 3 disc .... it fits cdr but does your xbox read burned music? if it does not then cd r wont work cdrw increases chances but ultimaly dvd-r does the trick _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

yeah i made the backup, and used it already once just to test it. and so to install the new version, do u still use the splinter cell exploit? because i used just one file for that, and the AID package has like a million lol.

well we can do it 2 ways , 1 we can restore the xbox back to ms defaults ( using restore ms dash option) and putting the new sid files . 2 way is burn the aid disc run it on the modded xbox choose advance then click install sid 4 .5 nknave edition to hdd . then on the same disc click install ms dash 5960 ( which brings xbox to ms dash ,,, u wont loose info)then take out disc and re mod it with the same disc.
the sid 4 and above use 2 files nk launcher for the game save and the linux _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

well lets take it easy and first things first thou then we talk what aid can really do .
its really up to you DO you want to
*burn aid 3 to a disc * or *download new sid 4 .0 files from torrents/vip? then transfer them to mem card and re mod it .... *
if you decide to transfer files as if you were going to mod it the first time , then you got to restore it normaly back to ms dash then delete the files so that they dont conflict with one and the other . _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition
