New to the forums and curious about all that is xbox modding.
First things first, how I killed my xbox. One day after haveing my machine for awhile I thought I'd look into this thing called softmodding. Useing google I came to a tutorial that seemed alot better then the rest. Useing this tutorial I grabbed the SID v2.0 and xboxhdm_v1.9. And started to mod my xbox.
Useing the Splinter Cell exploiot all was going well, I had backed up my MS dash and all other xbox stuff (I assume this is what that did) and my mod. Then I installed the softmod, and was about to install the EvoX dash. But my lovable dog came by and unplugged my xbox. BUT! not all was lost since being dumb and new to all this I booted up the xbox with the tray open not knowing what I was doing and BAM there was that nice little blue screen of mod-ness.
Anyways, I got curious and went to poke around. I found my file manager and was looking at what was in there. There was the linux luancher and the save game exploit, as well as dvd2xbox and a few other things. I clicked on my linux luancher, and right then the fates struck my down. My house and all the others on the block were hit with a power spike/surge! (Damn it, fryed my TV upstair and three light. Was really odd) Fearing for my xbox I turned it on to see what, if any damage resulted. To my dismay somthing did happen. The xbox POST's and does the green gooy ball thing and then loads the xbox symbol, then the microsoft appears. But it doesn't go anywhere from there. The LED is green and isn't "fragging" or any other bad thing. And no error message appears. I seems like the xbox is looking for the luancher that the soft mod told it to look for but it can't find it.
Now I suspect that the file either got corrupted or deleted while I was pokeing at it. But how can I restore this? Can I make a CD for the xbox to boot from so I could load the file and exploit again? (The green original dash) or is there a way to "reset" everything.
Or would a better solution be to find another refurbashed xbox and when I get curious I come here first. Though I only have so much money.
P.S.
Following a suggestion from a friend I used xboxhdm_v1.9 to create a new drive from his soft modded xbox. Sadly this is how I learned about the... uniquness of the eeprom. Sigh, a 120 GB HHD down the drain. (Error 06 with green and red flashing LED - Unlockable) Though Can't I unlock it with xboxhdm_v1.9 when I fix my original drive.
EDIT: ANd now that I see of have greta tutoirals I should have come here. Grr, damn you google. But please help...

I would invest in a chip. It will easily fix your broken harddrive problem. If you can find which version your xbox is, then you can find a chip that is right for you. I would suggest a Xenium, but again find out your xbox version. There is a tutorial on here somewhere. Once you find it, we can help you find a great tutorial on installing it. I would suggest www.themodchip.com. Also, if you are closer to Canda, go for www.divineo.com. Let us know your decision.
YOu could also try a hotswap, but I don't really know anything about it.
Hope I cleared up a little bit of confusion. _________________ Moddingbandit

Wow speedy reply,
Well my Xbox is a V1.0. It's Kernel version is somthing like 43XX sothing (Sorry memory is bad) and it does have that fan over the GPU.
The thing about hard modding is this is just sort of a casual thing for me and I've already spent alot of money on this. (Xbox, Action Replay, HDD) and am not all looking forward to the idea of a hardmod. Plus I can't solder worth my name. Keeping it in the softmodding area would be great!
And yes I'm close to Canada. Heck I like in it. Haha
But I'm off to work now. So I'll check back here later. Thanks to everyone (Gives out fake internet cookies) to all that help in what ever way they can.

Well that is the reason for a solderless chip. Since yours is a 1.0, it is way easy and just pops right on. And they are very easy to install, no solder at all. But if you want, you could just try a hotswap. That is really the only option you have. But if you still have the gamesave available and the game boots, then you can load up the exploit and then just ftp into your xbox and put a new msdash board into your C and then put a new evox into there as well. _________________ Moddingbandit

I'll try the hotswap as it's the least expensive. Then I'll look at another xbox, and then a chip. I'll keep you updated okay. Thanks for all the help.
Cya in a bit!.
EDIT: (Please excuse the use of caps) IT WORKED!!!! At first it wasn't, to I kept trying and it turns out your timing needs to be exact. And I think I got it down. My stock Xbox HDD is all brand new and shiny. Yay! Now I can start again!
Thanks so much. I learned alot (What TO do and what NOT to do) this time. Thank you. I'll be around when I have questions. (I'll also FTP my entire Xbox to my PC just in case! I also have that CD too)

Good going on this, I was going to suggest trying to load your splinter cell game up as a lot of times it will boot off of the disk when it won't boot off of the hard drive (dashboard), but you got it sorted out. A hotswap isn't too hard to do, the main trouble is with the timing as you found out, a lot of times you can just hit pause on the keyboard while the pc is doing it's POST, then plug in the xbox right after it displays the logo and you should be fine. _________________

There's a pause button. Your kidding, that's what that keyboard key is for... would have made my life easier. But yes all is well.
Thanks you all. Now I just need to figure out these issues with FarCry and Crimson Skies.
