Hello all......Newest of all Newbies here. First of all, this forum is great, I have learned alot already and became a member. I dont know much, but I am a good learner. OK the problem: Error code 21, flashing red and green. This happens with and without a game in the drive. I know I did something stupid while trying to update the XBMC, I believe I lost the original dashboard somehow?
I HAVE TRIED:
Booting with AID 3.0 iso on a DVD+R still same error.
Removing HDD and connecting it to my PC to copy missing .xbe ? (The PC does not recognize the drive.)
MY QUESTIONS:
Do I need to tell the xbox to boot from dvd drive?
Do I need to install orig M$ dash first? And How? Bootdisk?
Can I create a disk that will fix this?
A friend of a friend did the mod (they did some soldering so is that a modchip?), I don't know how to tell "type" or "version" It has a Thomson DVD drive and Seagate ST310014ACE HDD
I have been reading through this site for two days trying to find the answers myself. I am losing the battle, please help!
Thank you all for your knowledge and patience with my newbieness

Well you need to find the name of the chip and then reflash the chip with its type of bios. Ask your friend about the type, and see what he recommends for the bios. Then we can help you more once we have more info. thanx _________________ Moddingbandit

Thank you, I will.... In the mean time, is that something I could tell by looking at the mainboard?

Well just open up your xbox and look at the type of chip. It might say it or just look at it then look at the diff. types of chips till we can narrow it down. But I think you mean motherboard. But yes just open it and look inside. _________________ Moddingbandit

Yikes! no visible modification. Looks all stock....wierd. Maybe it is not a modchip after all and just a softmod?
And.... thanks again for your help

np, well if there was a chip it would be near the left side of the xbox. If its a softmod, then you must have deleted your dash and now you have 2 choices. You must buy a chip(ironic) or do a hotswap. I believe there is a tutorial around here somewhere, but I dont know much about it. _________________ Moddingbandit

These forums have been great, I have really learned alot. Thanks to all of you knowledgeable people on here. Here is an update on my hotswap battle. I have been using the "xboxhdm" tools and was having trouble unlocking my stock hd and since it is only a 10G, I purchased a Western Digital 120G hd. (I checked the compatibility list, seems to be ok). With the new drive, I can lock and unlock the hd just fine, but when installed in the xbox, I get error 6 (cannot unlock hd). When I unlock hd and then install into xbox, I get error 5 (hd not locked). I have copied the "c" files to new drive (xbrowser) but I am unsure about the "eeprom".
In thread: http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt15622.html Pirrup states: "a softmodded xbox needs a locked hd . and it needs to be locked with the eeprom from that xbox." My question is: How can I get the eeprom from the original locked hd to match it to the new hd?
I realize the best thing to do is to probably buy a chip, and I will eventually, I just wanted to try to fix this first!
