I must say this site is one of the most informative sites that I came across internet when learning to hack the Xbox!..props to all u guys!
After doing quite a bit of reading, today I finally attempted the SID hack. I loaded Splinter Cell (NTSC) and Linux files to my AR memory card and transferred it to the XBOX hard-drive. I ran the hack through the game save and it loaded to the N-Knave menu, where I backed up both MSDashboard and EEPROM to E. Then I went to install softmod and chose Dual Boot Knave Ndure, Open tray = retail..then Install UnleashX. Following these steps from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/311710:
Quote:
Step 12: Three messages will pop up. After reading and understanding each, Press A. On the 3rd message, you will get this message: "All requirements pass. Continue Install?" Click Yes.
Step 13: After the installation is complete, you will get this message:
"Softmod successfully installed, your virtual eeprom must be patched, after eeprom, now you'll boot to installer"
That sentence did not make sense to me, so just press OK. Now a new message pops up:
"The installer will now boot to patching system after it is completed, please turn off Xbox and power back on without game disc to finish install."
Click YES.
Step 14: Press eject and take out your disc and then close the tray. Turn it off. Once off, turn it back on by pressing the power button. When it boots up, UnleashX will appear with a "Softmod Successful" message. It says that it needs 1 more step to finish the install. PRESS A.
I never got a message like the one from step 13. However, all I got is something along the lines (don't really remember the exact words) "Softmod installed...you must shutdown now." After this, I shutdown ejected Splinter Cell from the drive then shutdown and turned it back on again. when it says "it needs 1 more step to finish the install. PRESS A"; however, nothing like "Softmod Successful" as in step 14 from the quote above.
After the installation, I boot up the XBOX using the Eject button and loaded the XBL (so this is fine with the green light) But when I power on with the normal power button this is what happens:
1) Splash screen that says UnleashX.
2) It will tell me to configure and set the clock.
3) It will boot into normal MSDashboard with the red light.
Shouldn't the UnleashX Dashboard be the one that is loading!?! As of now I have tried to re-install it twice and the same thing happens. I am really lost right now. Any help on getting this thing to boot properly would be helpful!! Thx in advance!

Just press the 2 trigger buttons and start and select at the same time when at the clock screen. it will reboot and load to Unleash. _________________ Moddingbandit

I have give this method a tried and it worked. However, shouldn't it boot into UnleashX automatically from the power button? I mean everytime I restart I have to press the trigger buttons and start and back at the clock menu.

I have to set the clock everytime I boot up, also it only boots to MSDashboard. Thats why I am askin' if there is anyway to fix this rather than booting to the clock everytime and having to push the triggers and start and select.

yes, there is. Go into your unleash x options and change clock settings to no and just mess with time options. Should fix it. _________________ Moddingbandit

Hmm...this is wierd...but I guess it fixed itself?!! Anyways, I rebooted and everything loaded fine!
Now that I have installed SID, how do I go about installing AID? I am pretty sure I don't need to: Backup/Restore HDD; Format/Prepare HDD; Install MS Dash 5960; Install Hacked Dashboards. Am I correct?
Since I installed Softmod, so I am sure that I have to go through "Install Dashboards (Softmod)" like it said in the manual. But the options in it, "Install -- Drive Dashboards" and "Install -- Drive Dashboard (DHCP)", what is the difference between the two? And which one am I suppose to use? If I am correct, the dashboard (softmod) should be installed into drive E like all the other moded files, correct?
