Okay so i am ready to purchase a new harddrive. i have a xbox softmodded with the splintercell exploit and then i used Aid3.0-3.1 to install apps and emulators.

i looked around and found this tutorial to be one of the easiest to understand http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-185.html

however when i click on the link for xboxhdm_v1.9.zip it takes me to the main download section. can some one please help me out. i don't want to buy a harddrive without already knowing how to do everything.

And finally what kind of harddrive to ya'll recommend looking around i hear good things about maxtor and seagate. i am looking around for 200 to 300 gb max. any other specs i should look at to get a quality hd.

thanks for the help.

Well in the d/ls section is where you can find the d/l of xboxhdm1.9. And it is basically self explanatory. Just make sure you get the eeprom from an E folder, not from C or E/backup. There is a folder with the real one in it.

I also recommend Western Digital, I had troubleupgrading with maxtor.

this is the best program out today very ez to use
I have upgraded all sorts of drives from this program i have fixed dead drives(error 5-6-21-13) i have used this program to get hdd from other boxes to work in mine. I have upgraded a seagate 400 gig and i wester d 250 w/ no headaches.
xbox hdm$$ make xbox hdm iso disk(ms dash in c udata & tdata in e and eeprom in eeprom folder. run make iso exe. use dvd decrypter to burn iso.
turn off pc unplug master ide cable from hdd
w/ iso in pc cdroom/dvdrom drive power on pc. hit pause/break when boots to cd. plug in new hdd to pc ide master cable. hit pease/break again.
xbox hdm startup use program 1. select new hdd and follow insructions. you must lock hdd after upgraded. (restart and select program 3 to lock)
(type (lockhd) now type(lock hd -a) if everything went as planed it should now ask if you want to lockhd type yes.
install in box run game hack and you should be able to rock your box.
I have tried using the clone hd program w/ some probs.this works the best for me.

okay i am a little confused on how to hookup my hard drive

my understanding was that i

hook up xbox to computer

ftp c and e drive to computer

disconnect harddrive from xbox

hookup new hard drive to xbox and then ftp the c and e folders over

that was my basic understanding i know there is more to it by reading that tutorial i found here. i just am not sure about this whole harddrive upgrade thing.

i was also looking at his harddrive any comments on it will be appreciated

I suppose it is appropriate that I this thread is in the newbie section because I'm about to ask a dumb noob question Smile

What is the purpose of putting a drive over 137GB in an Xbox?? I can understand why if you have converted it to a dedicated Linux box because I know Linux recognizes large drives. But surely the native Xbox BIOS won't recognize the true size.

To me it seems like you have to cater to the lowest common denominator when partitioning the drive, or am I missing something here?

SethA lol you are totaly missing it . with an softmoded xbox you can obtain more then 137 gb.... just formate G and voila all hd space

and theirs many many many factors why a bigger hd is better for an xbox

1) game run alot faster if not no loading.... 2) you can burn your dvds so your original disc wont get damage . 3) you can put alot of stuff + emus+roms...

as for mastercloud : dont be scared this is rather easy . but first knowing what game does not help however knowing what is the softmod called does. was it sid 2 3 or 4.5 ? the reason why i say it is because sid 4 and above has a diffrent path for the real eeprom.bin

its found on E/udata/21558 somtin/00000000000/backup/eeprom.bin here

now you just need that eeprom and well again depending on what sid you did is depending if your C is real or not... althou just download the .rar ms dash from pirrups signiture or from the useful links... and then extract it and use this as a C . you dont need to put your E folder.

now to transfer your eeprom and other stuff etc etc. you need to ftp read under my signiture for a tut. of course from the hd that is modded. once the info is on the pc and you put them on the right paths on xboxhdm burn the iso and then take out your pc hd ( for safety) and then put the new hd that you be working on , where the pc hd was .... it should be connected on the same ide cable as the cd drive . put the hd jumper settings to master and cd drive as slave. its a small pin on the back of the drives.

its just a couple of yes yes yes ... just fellow the tut and you be fine man Very Happy

i know you can do it .... i was in the same path if not worser .... yep i think worser ... hang in there you almost got it .... i hope my info was useful bye .

okay yah i used sid 4.5 to install softmod.

the only thing i was unsure of was the pc part. i didn;t understand how the pc harddrive had anything to do with this beside hold the ftped info from the xbox.

so once i ftp the proper files from the xbox

i then open up the pc disconnect the harddrive and put my new one then insert the disk a go.

sounds to simple to be true but this weekend i will have all the required tools to give it a go.

yep you got it . but once you burn the iso take the disc out and press f2 and change your boot order to first cd drive then hd... once you save these settings unplug pc and take out pc hd put new xbox hd ( remember change the jumper to master) and cd drive as slave and both of them on the same ide cable.

once you got that put the cd on the drive and work it bro .
