hey everyone i finally got that free xbox from one of my friends. lol another friend dropped it off and it had no cover, there were led's with wires coming off and a switch attached to the back, and a vitamin inside lol. i was like wtf. i thought to myself "and youre wondering why its not working" lol. i took the wires, switch, VITAMIN out and it works fine! and he gave it to me. thats funny. it has one of those seagate hdds with the black rubber on it and a thompson drive. what version is this? the hdd is 10GB right? i believe the chips name started with a C and had an X in it. i didnt look closely yet. also what does it take to put linux on an xbox? do you have to have a chip or is the softmod linux? just wanted to let you guys know. \m/Thor\m/

I always thought my Xbox was iron deficient, perhaps that's the issue.
I'll have to try one of those Flinstones chewables.
The softmod is built on Linux if that helps some.
As far as the version of your Xbox, there are several ways to determine it's version.
One is via software, one is to open the box and compare motherboard parts (easy though).
Let me know how you want to go and I'll help determine the version.

well since this thing has no TOP lol i dont think it matters if i look at the motherboard. im planning on making a cluster of xboxes. as of now im just researching so for now id just like to know how to get Linux on there. i heard from someone something about Beowulf or something like that. what is that? anyway get back to me asap. thanks \m/Thor\m/
