Even thought i'm experiece in stuff, I'm still not too sure about this one, but if you use Memorex DVD-R, it will read on all existing xboxes, but Samsung will not support much of the DVD+R.

I recall back about 5-6 years ago...maybe even longer, when dvd burners were comming out....what I gathered was that pretty much + and - were at war with eachother and trying to dominate the market.....in the end it looks like both won since many dvd burners do both now...but for instance, my $550 2.1X burner only writes + since that looked like the dominant one at that time....I thought - was going to die out but it didnt....pretty much I think it just comes down to a slightly different format....I wouldn't worry about the subject as long as you found something that works...later.

dvd-r vs dvd+r is just like offset rival companys like hd dvd vs blue ray. + dvd-r is more compatible then dvd+r but over time as tech gets better so dvd+r is staring to be good. i'd perfer and always usualy done dvd-r more then dvd+r .....

DVD-R is a slightly older technology but is supported/recognized by the DVD forum and was built to mimic the DVD format. Which is why it has a higher compatibility across the board for players built for commercial movie playback. with some older DVD players this is the only format you can get to work. I believe this one was started by Pioneer

DVD+R has more enginering behind it and is a little more versitile in how it works Which allows it to be used at faster speeds more easily but is less compatible with players not designed to recognize it. I believe this one was supported by other makers like Sony, Phillips, HP, and the like until they followed the lead of some new rival companies that started makeing dual compatible drives. Now, I think everyone that makes drives makes them for both formats.

At least I think this is right if Memory serves me correctly.

If I got something wrong please feel free to correct me cause I'm not 100% on this but it should be close.

I use the Fuji (silver) 100 packs DVD-R and as mentioned above, have not made any coasters and almost all DVD's will read them.
