hey everyone, recently i bought a new dvd drive for my 1.1 because it was broken and i thought that was the reason my xbox wasnt working....but it wasnt lol. anyway i looked it up and its doing that christmas lights thing lol...it boots 3 times then it blinks red and green and doesnt show video or play sound on the tv. Hellblazer55 told me my bios is messed up and the only way to fix it is to buy a chip. but id rather have the linux softmod on there. is there anyway i can get it to work without having a chip? the dvd tray opens! lol. maybe load bios with a disc and somehow save it to the harddrive? then install linux. theres gotta be a way lol ppppppppplllllllllzzzzzzzzzzz let there be. i downloaded cromwell(linux) from the downloads section and burned it to a CD-RW will this work? if not take a look at my offer down here \/ thanks \m/Thor\m/ _________________ If you wanna check out some of my music go to http://www.myspace.com/4evertrying Ill appreiciate your support.

There isnt a way of fixing it, you need to get a chip, the TSOP chip on the motherboard is no longer functioning and theres no way of recovering it, the only way of getting your xbox to work is to put a mod chip in it. _________________

sorry buddy im just stubborn as hell lol. i dont have any money and i want this thing fix NOW lol. like my info says i have a couple things that ill trade for a mod chip so if you want them you can have them lol i just dont trust the mod chips as much as the softmod for some reason. i guess its cause ive never used one. and i put the softmod on myself. i should make that dumbass kid pay for the mod chip lol hes the one that got mad at me and threw the xbox on the floor! but his family is wierd, they didnt even have the decentsy to get me a new one or even return all my things after i moved out! oh well _________________ If you wanna check out some of my music go to http://www.myspace.com/4evertrying Ill appreiciate your support.

Well I can tell you this, mod chips are more stable than a softmod and safer too, especially the mod chips these days with built in recovery modes. _________________

I've got a couple of suggestions if you really don't want to get the chip. I've just fixed my xbox with the same problem. Two ways - Open up the xbox and give the clock a rub its a shiny bit of metal on the far left hand side at the back of the motherboard with any luck it will boot. If that doesn't work you can try and put it in the freezer for about 20-30 mins and then see if it boots. You might end up with an error 16 screen after that which can be fixed if you have the locking password or eeprom.bin file on your pc.
This honestly worked for me - I know it sounds crazy and I wouldn't advise it unless you really are at the end of your tether. Obviously it'll have moisture in it after its out the freezer so procede with caution ie don't touch anything metal or you'll end up with an electric shock. Rubber gloves advised!!! I'll take no responsibility for you killing yourself.

yeah the freezer thing sounds a bit extreme lol. you actually did that and it worked? where do i get this eeprom tool and what is eeprom? and what would the clock have anything to do with it? im not really sure what my "friend" did to it. he could have poured a liquid into it lol so there may be some kind of caked on crap all over the motherboard. in which case i might want to try cleaning it off lol. also i was thinking about getting a bigger HDD for this bad boy. i was wondering what kind i need to get or if it would be a better idea to get it after i fix it. i know that the bios is on both the HDD and the motherboard so how would it affect it? thanks for you help guys \m/Thor\m/ _________________ If you wanna check out some of my music go to http://www.myspace.com/4evertrying Ill appreiciate your support.

Bios checker is for chipped xboxes so it will not help you. The eeprom is a file your xbox uses to lock and unlock the hard drive. If you don't have the eeprom it can sometimes be a bit tricky fixing a faulty xbox. If you have the eeprom backed up then you can pretty much do what you like to your xbox and you know it can be fixed. Unfortunately the problem you have is the worst and not an easy fix. There is no way of putting a disk or a file in your xbox and it will fix itself you have a physical problem with your hardware. I'd open it up and have a look at the motherboard and see if you can see anything obvious otherwise do what hellblazer said and get a chip.

ok im just wondering what type i should get. hellblazer said to get the Aladdin but thats not solderless. i hear that solderless mod chips arent reliable either...they come loose. i want a good one but im short on cash lol. also i was talking to a friend here at college and he said that a reason rubbing the clock might work is because it causes a static charge and that resets the system. idk if this is true but its a good idea. if anyone has a modchip and will do it for a cheap price ill be glad to give you my broken samsung dvd drive for parts or whatever. thanks \m/Thor\m/ _________________ If you wanna check out some of my music go to http://www.myspace.com/4evertrying Ill appreiciate your support.

I know more about good potato chips than computer chips so someone like hellblazer or another administator would be better help to you finding the right chip. I've got an xecuter lite 2.6 in one of my xboxes but I bought the xbox faulty with it already installed so I couldn't tell you how easy it is to install. Here's a website showing you how to dismantle the xbox and it has a picture of the clock crystal at the bottom of the page if you want to try rubbing it. That sounds like a good explanation of why it reset it (static) although static charges can be harmful to computer components. I leave it up to you.

What you're going to hear is all the dogcrap that people gather regarding all the bad issues all the solderless chips have. What they aren't telling you is that it's not that hard to do, it can be done right and it can be completely trouble free, which is the majority of the time.
I can tell you from my experience that the solderless way I went was the Xenium Ice. It's on a V1.0 with all the pinheaders previously filled with solder courtesy of M$ and it's worked without a hitch since day one well over a year and a half ago. It's been bumped, slapped, (lightly) kicked and yelled at as I become a puddle of blood in Halo and other first person shooters, and it still hasn't had a single issue. I've worked the crap out of it while testing this that and the other thing. So take all the boo-hooing with a grain of salt since they didn't take the time to read the directions and install it properly, then decide for yourself.
I can tell you, you won't be sorry. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

If you would like I can give you some linkd on how to make your own Mod-chip.
It's a BIG pain in the ass, it takes a long time, and you need to solder A LOT!
There are 29 wires X 1 solder joint on each end = 58 solder joints. (this is not including the ones that you have to re-do when you screw them up!)
But, if you are into computer hardware it's pretty cheap, $10-$15. _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

sounds tempting lol but for now ill say no hehe. my friend has an xbox that he says wont play games and he will give it to me. i think its just the dvd drive...and i just bought a thompson for my "christmas lights" 1.1 so if i put that in there then it might work. or if all else fails ill have spare parts lol. anyway ill see what happens there. then if i still need the mod chip ill consider the homemade option and the aladdin advance xt options lol. btw do they have a solderless adapter for the aladdin xt? anyway thanks for your help guys. if anything changes ill let you know. \m/Thor\m/ _________________ If you wanna check out some of my music go to http://www.myspace.com/4evertrying Ill appreiciate your support.

well if your box still boots if you leave it unplugged for a few days then u may be able to flash te tsop, i was able to fix mine that way, my box did the same thing so i left it unplugged for a bout two days and it loaded up so i made a custom game save with evox and i solderd the points required to enable flash write, and i poped in evox and flashed the chip with evox m8, now it works like a charm
if u dont like to solder then u can use a defoggr repair kit to bridge the points instead of using solder, or any conductive paint will work _________________ Please post all PC Questions at PC-HQ.com
