What I'm wondering is if what I am planning to do will overtax the xbox power supply. I have an xbox, a chip, and 2 other pieces of electronics that I want to put into the xbox. I am planning on removing the DVD drive to make room, and the other 2 pieces of electronics should physically fit inside the case. One of these is a USB device, so I'm planning on just splicing into a controller port. The other use a 12v 1.25amp power adapter to power it. If I were to put a Y power splitter from the hard drive power supply, and then attach the ground and the yellow 12v cable in place of the power adapter, should this cause problem? I want to avoid any extra cables going into the xbox if possible. _________________

Sounds interesting.. What are these 2 things you are adding?? lol
ANyway, i cant see why there would be a prob.. Ive seen all sorts of additions directly wired to the XBOX PSU.. But i could imagine it will shorten its life somehow, but im no expert on this type of thing.
hang about and wait to here from halouser or one of the other modders here.. Ive done light mods etc etc but nothing really hardcore..

What I'm planning is this: I work for a satellite TV company, and we sell this small receiver that is actually in a cable modem case. The plan is to pull the board, and drop it into the xbox. From there, I cut off the composite out and wire it directly into a small USB video capture card. The plan is to run MYTH in XDSL and make a nice little PVR. I'm gonna follow some of the tutorial posted by modgod and just fill the whole where the DVD tray used to come out.
I also found out that the xbox uses a 96 watt PSU, and after checking a couple of wattage calculators for PSU, I should be pretty close. I'm planning on donig a very detail photographic journal as I go, if I get it up and running I'll post it all here. Got get the cash togethre first though _________________
sounds scarey and interesting..
First for the USB ports.
I took 4 usb ports from PC's and spliced them wire for wire into my controller ports. I have 4 control ports and 4 usb ports. thats the asy part..
the reciver... Interference is more of a problem then the PSU. I do know however that since cable modems/ blxes are on constant 120V power sources, this may cut the life of your xbox in half.
Just my 2 cents

Since this specific STB is so small, it uses a detachable 12V power adapter, so I think it should be ok. The interference might be trouble though... Only one way to find out _________________
