I did my first sid 4.0 softmod the other day and used aid 3.0 to install dash and I love it Now I want to resoftmod the 10 -12 xbox's that I did with sid 3.0 to 4.0!!
I am thinking of how to do that because sid 4.0 seems to only want to use a virgin hard drive (unmodded ms dash backup and eeprom backup before it will work) so I am planning to try this -- tell me what you think.
boot aid 3.0 on softmodded xbox that I want to upgrade. Choose format/ prepare harddrive and format c partition and e partition. (that kills current softmod and deletes teh sid 3.0 savegame from the xbox)
Choose install ms dash 5960 (that rebuilds c partition to normal retail harddrive)
Choose advanced options - install sid 4.0 n-knave - install to hdd. (this copies the save game to the e drive)
Reboot with original game (mech assualt in my case)
Run save game (install Linux)
Make backup/s, and install softmod and continue as if i had original unmodded xbox.
Does that sound right? Pretty much what Im asking is can I use the aid disk to format those partitions in order to resoftmod with 4.0?

sounds good but want somthing easier? on aid 3 on the section of advance tools u can install sid 4.5 to ur mem card or to ur hd direct.. that wipes out the current 2 files that are to softmod the xbox ....
4.0 = safest ntsc user friendly sid 4.5 = best for xbox live no glitches of any sort and stil a bit safety but less then sid 4.0... because its eeprom patching have been removed on sid 4.5....
but if a gamer plays xbox live then ur best bet is too put sid 4.5 dualboot= retail.....
i dont know if u know but dual boot means boot 2 diffent dashboards ... 1 is ux for example and 2nd is power on xbox with open tray and loads up ms dashboard retail... which means safe for xbox live ... i thought i give u the info if u didnt know... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Well if you choose to install sid 4.1 to the hdd from the aid 3.0 disk doesnt that just copy the savegames over, it doesnt really resoftmod it with the 4.1 system does it. See it would have to repatch the eeprom and update to nkpatcher 11 when my sid 3.0 softmodded xboxes dont have that nkpatcher method. I assumed that we are going to have resoftmod after I copy the savegame (sid 4.0) onto the hard drive.

u go to that option right then u see sid 4.5 nknave edition or sumtin like that...
choose to install to hd.... then it wipes out the older game save files...
then u coldboot with the exploitable game and re mod itfrom their..
now if u want sid 4.0 files to ur mem card then just search it on the net ... and if u want the sid 4.5 files then choose to it install it on ur mem card insted of hd... but make sure u have noting on that mem card or well u know what could happens...

lol, that is exactly what I said originally, thank you! I wasnt asking how to copy them to a usb drive (mega x key) as I know how to do that already. The purpose of my post was how to upgrade a currently modded xbox with sid 3 to a softmodded xbox with sid 4.0. It sounds like we are in agreement.
The confusing / non simple part is in the wording of the aid 3.0 disk because when it says install sid 4.1 onto harddrive that can mean two things:
One: resoftmods with new sid 4.1 OR
Two: copys save games onto hard drive leaving the xbox in need of resoftmodding.
You see? Im not trying to be simple, Im trying to be exact, to leave out room for error. I appreciate all your help already and would like to add to your rep (along with anguldracul and others)

I believe SID 4 adn 4.5 have an "uninstall softmod" function but you need to have a back up of the m$dash on the hdd.
When it installs the softmod, the gamesaves aren't updated since you are running the softmod from AID or another disk. The original gamesaves you loaded will still be there.

so what your saying is if I have an xbox that I softmodded 6 months ago with the sid 3.0 system I can choose uninstall softmod with the aid 3.0 disk and uninstall that softmod? Im not sure that will work because that uninstall button appears to uninstall a sid 4.0 or sid 4.5 softmod not an earlier version of it, you see the newer softmods (4.0 and 4.5) create the backup folder on E drive. The older softmods didnt. I think that the only real way of uninstalling sid 3.0 and prior is to format the c partition. Now the second part of your post (about copying the save games) is true- You see when you choose to istall sid 4.1 to the hdd what it is really doing is copying over the old sid 3.0 save game with the new save game + the sid loader save game.
Am i right?

On uninstalling...what you described is like a manual uninstall..if you will. Kind of a more advanced approach. Many people attempt this but hosing their box. Just be sure to complete each step. The only thing that really need to be formatted is the c: partition.
IF you want to start fresh, format c: and delete all but UDATA and TDATA from e:. THose are your gamesaves. You may want to keep the apps directory also.
After deleting install the m$dash, softmod and dashboard. Do not reboot. The new SID requires the most recent m$dash so use the one packaged in AID. The softmod will pretty much install itself....well, after you select it. The only thing you have to do after is change the dashboard if you dont want EvoX or UX. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

sounds like you got this danger mouse but umm i think that we did agree on somthing zues ... lets say u have sid 3 files to softmod... and u choose from aid 3 to install the sid 4.5 files to your hd ... it will replace ur sid 3 files and have sid 4.5 files on the xbox....
i know this because i tryed doing that ....
now i forgot what you where trying to do but yes sid 4.0 and 4.5 have a uninstall option u boot to the linux and unistall it from their... and it should have the ms backup as it was a requirement to install sid 4 so u should be good on that

what my goal was is to define a clear way to take a xbox that has been softmodded with the sid 3.0 system (no ms backup / no eeprom backup/ sid 3.0 save games stored on the e partition) to a sid 4.0 softmodded system.
Now you can uninstall the softmod from an xbox with sid 4.0 and 4.5 by using the sid menu (open tray boot ) or by using the sid menu (original game ) or by the aid menu but that uninstall option will not work with an xbox that was modded with sid 3.0 as 3.0 does not make the proper backup folders and files. So the only way to uninstall sid 3.0 is to format the c partition.
Then you have to get the sid 4.0 save games onto the hard drive. that is where the aid 3.0 disk comes in, you see when you copy sid4.0 to the hdd with aid 3.0 it overwrites the sid 3.0 savegames essentially preparing the xbox to be resoftmodded.
See I tried to resoftmod an xbox that I had originally done with sid 3.0 and screwed it up. The reason why is that I didnt load a fresh copy of the ms dash on c partition - and it didnt exist with the sid 3.0 (sid 3.0 allows you to load a softmod dashboard to c - unlike sid 4.0 that makes you put it on e and puts ms dash on c) so when I reloaded my original game and tried to run the softmod installer 4 system it wouldnt continue because it detected already softmodded files and couldnt make a backup of ms dash.
im just trying to help explain what you have to do to upgrade an xbox from sid 3 -to sid 4. There are prerequisites to softmodding with sid 4.0 and alot of xboxes that are softmodded with 3.0 dont meet those requirements. You do have to do more than just copy the save games to the xbox and boot into mechassualt. You have to put a copy of msdash on the C partition - you have to have erase all the current softmod files and aid 3.0 will not uninstall sid 3.0 from your system, and you have to transfer the savegames onto e partition replaceing the sid 3 files. ( prefer to delete the sid 3.0 files not replace ).
