Hi All,
I am a newbie to all this so please forgive if this has already been asked(have searched prior to post). Got a secondhand(not paid for unless I can fix) xbox - hard drive broke, so my question is can I remove it and install a brand new one (200gb)with all the stuff loaded from 'xboxhdm' on it, or do I need keys and passwords from the old hard drive(original). Cheers for any correspondance

You will have to either have the the Xbox eeprom or buy a modchip. But, if you have the origonal xbhdm that was used to upgrade the hdd for that xbox then you could use that to make a new hdd. _________________ http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-211.html

You would need the eeprom off of the mother board to lock a new drive to it. Two way of retrieving the eeprom are by a mod chip or to softmod the original hd and run a homebrew app that will backup the eeprom.
The easiest would be to chip the box. Chipped boxes do not need the hd to be locked unlike softmodded boxes. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

Thanks for replies - so the new hard drive must be locked to the xbox - and this info is on the original hard drive - well its f////ed so a modchip it is then

wait a sec.......... I would at least try a hot swap with the oem drive , reinstalling the msdash etc...... get the info from pirrups hot swap. I woluld at least try, maybe the drive has corrupt data onit, but the eeprom,hdd key are still there if you can access it after unlocking it with hot swap.

nope nothing comes up no error at all just sits there doing nothing - will try a hot swap and see what happens - not holding out much hope though.
But nice to have a mess around the only way to learn and a little guidance from you guys of course ! !
