hi guys.. i know this is a real newbie question.. but just to make sure..

i recently softmodded my xbox and now i want to upgrade it to a larger hhd.. about 120gb.. now i dont know which jumdrive i should select..

i saw this video from screensavers.. where they talk about modding an xbox.. and it says that i should put my jumpdrive to "cable select".. is this true?.. if not could you tell which one it is.. and if i do put it on cable select.. would it mess up my xbox by now putting it on the right jumpdrive?..
appreceiate yourr answeres..

I have always use cable select when I do hdd upgrades. I also use WD250GIG hdd's with my softmods. But, I use a WD300GIG with all 300 on the F:/ with no problems... Read this old post of mine.

You have to use a little tool called Xbpartitioner, It sets the size of your hdd partitions. I use it all the time when I softmod and works great, download it from the usual places, or get it off of the AID disk. When you have it on your box run the program and at the screen press start, then you will see 2 windows ( one on top of the other ) the top window shows your C: E: X: Y: Z:, the bottom window shows your F:/G: drive. Move the highlighted portion to the bottom screen and press the "A" button untill it shows the top partition in the bottom window somewhere around your hdd max space, then press start to write table and format partition. A screen will pop up asking if you are sure you want to continue, just press the "Y" button to continue and it will Write and Format the partition. Make sure if you have anything loaded on the F: partition that you back it up to your pc first because it will wipe the entire F: clean. Now you will experience the hdd's full capacity.

Thanks hellblazer,

I think I am actually going to write a tutorial on this, I have seen the question coming up more often lately. You know what, I might just write an entire tutorial on how I do my modz... Look for it in the near future...

Also, with softmods, Cable Select is a required Jumper. If you don't , you'll probably end up with an Error 06. I found this out with my first HDD upgrade. PIssed me off, and scared me half to death. Try a different jump setting if you want (But you KNOW It's not master, that's the DVD drive... duh? Very Happy). If you get an error 06, go to Cable Select. It'll fix it, I garauntee.

Well, that's funny, because the Xbox HDD is not a master drive. So therefore the master jumper shouldn't allow it to work. But it's probably all in how the Motherboard was set to communicate with the IDE controller by microsoft.

Impossible and unheard of, why is it that any one else that does this runs into problems and you dont when its left on master, your blowing smoke out your A$%, your just probably imagining this.
