Hey all, my apologies for not being present too much recently. I have been having some trouble with my wireless network. As of late, I have been accessing the internet through a Linksys WAP54G wireless access point, which is in my parents house next door, and a Linksys WMP54G PCI card.
Because of the distance, my connection suffers poor signal quality, and regularly drops out
Now I have heard of methods to increase range (e.g. hacked firmware, hardware mods, bigger antennae, etc.) but I was wondering if any of you have ideas that might help me solve my problem.
Thanks for any help,
roo
*edit* oh btw, I had considered building my own WiFi antenna, but I'm not sure which method would work best _________________

You should definitely be able to flash the firmware on the WAP at your parents place, try here. You could also inversting in a network extender, I've had nothing but success with those _________________

Thanks for the input mate.
I was thinking about it, but I didn't want to brick my new WAP. However, i have read of ways to recover, so I might give it a shot.

OK, well I flashed my ap with the hyperwap firmware, and its better, but still leaves a lot to be desired.
So I have decided to buy some TNC connectors and use an external antenna setup.
So, hopefully I'll get there soon, thers only so much I can afford _________________

also, you can access your router from its IP address and turn up the power.. i called linksys for assistance on one computer that wouldnt connect, and the guy told me how to change it from like channel 6 to channel 11, and it went from good to excellent at the other end of the house...

yeah, thats exactly what I did Bumping the tx power up by just 10mW made a big difference. Also, as you said, ch.11 seems the best, with least noise etc.
lol, someone in my area is not using any encryption, MAC filters etc.......... _________________
