I have just bought a Western Digital 120gb external USB 2.0 HDD. Once I softmod my xbox and use the usb adapter to hook up the hdd to my xbox can I play games and apps off the hard drive with Evox or another dashboard?

Yes, BUT... The Xbox uses USB v1.1 which only runs at 11 Megabits/sec.(Your 2.0 drive is backwards compatable and would run at 11Mb/s) This means it would be faster for you to swap game disks every time you wanted to change games, and then you wouldn't have the Super Slow Load Times from the USB!

So, to clearly answer your question:
Yes, but you wouldn't want to use it for games. Just storage that you don't use very often. Sad
