Ok, I've read the tutorials. But, I think there must be something different going on with my attempts to connect my PC to my XBOX with the crossover cable. I SWEAR I've read every tutorial. Please help, if you can spare some patience.
XBOX - smartxx v2 flashed with x2 5035 in one of the 512K banks
- no dash installed yet (I'm trying to install XBMC, hence my current dilemma)
PC - ethernet card. Directly connecting with crossover cable to XBOX. So, internet is disconnected.
I have no IP address. Not in the smartxx OS, not in the MS dash, nothing.
What am I doing wrong? I thought this was a pretty straight-forward connection.
PURPOSE: To be able to copy apps, dashboards, etc to my hard drive on the XBOX.
Please help???

Hi tinpanalley and welcome to HQ mate.
ok, Firstly ill give you some tips.
If you want to install stuff you dont need to FTP the files onto the XBOX..
Thats the old school way and you can break stuff easy.
So, This is what i suggest.
Get ahold of Auto Installer Deluxe (http://www.aid.xbox-hq.com).
On the AIDeluxe there is 70+ dashboards, apps and emulators for your xbox.
Justburn the AID.iso file to a DVD-R or CDRW and pop it into your xbox.
Since your xbox is already modded and you have a hacked bios running it will boot instantly and show a menu.
You can install whatever you want.
Once you have that done.. Then we will setup a FTP connection to your xbox.
You cannot FTP into the xbox without having a hacked dashboard installed as the original M$ Dashboard does not support FTP.
hope that helps.
keep asking in the forums.. We have tonnes of guys here to help.

Ok, AID's up and running
XBMC installed
Unfortunately, the Forum hasn't yielded much help. How does the FTP thing work?

Maybe you should write down how you're trying to do it. Then we can tell you what you're doing right or wrong. _________________ XBOX V1.4

Yeah, sorry. I guess that would help.
Well, essentially, I haven't been able to do anything yet. My xbox is telling me that my ip address is 0.0.0.0. I realized I didn't have a hacked dashboard on my system, so I installed XBMC. Since that's not really officially a dashboard, do I need to install something else like Avalaunch or something?
No router, just a crossover cable into my Pc's ethernet card with the internet off. I connect them witrh the cable and my computer doesn't recognize it at all.
Anyway, that's where I'm at.

XBMC can be run as a dash and many people prefer it, so no you dont have to install a different dash if you dont want, but another one such as avalaunch may be better suited for you...
go to your dash settings and change your IP address on the xbox to a familiar address (something like 192.168.2.7) then change the IP of your network card that has the crossover in it to something that complements that (192.168.2.x) and check to make sure you are on the same subnets and default gateways... _________________ Xbox-V1.1-Xenium GOLD OS 2.3.1-X2 5035

Doesn't my network card have to remain at a specific IP address in order to get to my internet feed? And therefore shouldn't I not change it's IP address? Or am I completely lost?
Ho do I change the IP address and those other things?

the problem with crossover is that you must set your IP manually and using a hacked dash, the smartXX chip doesn't support crossover(I think), and it's why you get 0.0.0.0 for IP address, but something like evox, or unleashX (really easy to configure) can help you out of this.
Once again, why do you want to ftp???? You really don't need to ftp, unless you got some mp3, avi, mpgs, or something you want to play on your xbox media center.........or some downloaded games .
anyways, hopes this clears things up a little. _________________ Xbox v1.1

Will a router help me connect my XBOX and my PC? Also, on the XBOX end, I've heard that a router isn't necessary. That all I need is a bridge. Will the brige talk to the PC? Or does that communication only go one way?
Can you send me a link or something that explains connecting with routers and bridges, if it's too time consuming for you to explain?
Thank you!
