hey everyone =]
i am thinking of modding my xbox and i asked a place and they said that they would put a AladdinXT chip into it. Is the chip good? or is there a better chip i should be looking for and also what do i need to look for in the xbox chip. friend told me that i should look for a chip that can install an o/s or something about dashboards.

yes a chip is good, but I wouldn't get one unless you just want to add on a hdd. Or just to make sure if you screw any software stuff in your xbox, you can fix anything. And yes Aladdin is good but there are way better ones out there as well. Well if you aren't really good and soldering or installing stuff, I would stick to softmods. They are easier to do(well to me) instead of opening your box. Yes dashboards are what you have put in your xbox to load mods and to ftp to your xbox. Some dashse will let you play music through it from your comuter. Others let you play xlink kai through it. There are so many benefits to modding. But with a chip if you ever want to change your version you have o burn a bios to a disk and run it through your xbox. Too much touble in my opinion. But I hope this helped you in your modding quest.

Not completely accurate softmod-boy.
Let me illuminate regarding chips since I have chipped and softmodded.
When deciding on a chip, I would recommend the Xenium. You will need to know the version of your xbox but there are plenty of tutorials as to how to accomplish that easily.
Soldering fanatic? If so, go with a pinheader. Can't solder, go with the solderless mount then if you do somehow fail to get the pins aligned properly, you unscrew the screw (that M$ conveniently provided), reset it and screw it back down. Hardly constitutes a complete loss of the Xbox.
There is indeed a chance with a softmod of making a mistake that could prevent you from using your hdd (say if it's unlocked by mistake or intentionally) that could make your hdd unrecoverable... a brick.
That issue does not exist with a chip modded box.

well if i do decide to chip it i will take it to a place that does it for me =]
so lets say i did get it chipped with the AladdinXT chip, will i be able to install software which can copy games onto the hdd?

I would suggest the xenium and if you are deciding to take it somewhere I would make sure that they have done xbox's before and that they arent just going to wing it and screw your box....provided you are copying games to the hdd that you own then yes there are programs but we do not condone piracy on this site if you are talking about renting and copying games....sounds like you need to do a lot of reading before you dive into this endeavour.....read up on aideluxe.com and go to the different chip websites and look for tutorials on how to install the chips and how to set them up (flash bios, upgrade hdd, etc)....remember your stock xbox hdd isnt very big so if you want to fully utilize your chip you are going to want to upgrade...later. _________________ Xbox V1.6

Xenium chips rule!! 90% of my mods are done with Xenium, the other 10 I F*up, just kidding. Xenium is a very reliable and easy chip to install. Hell, I even installed one while I was Sh*tfaced drunk.(Shut up Shark) _________________

hey guys ! =]
i have found another place i can get my xbox modded, place offered me a SmartXX chip. i presume that this chip is better than the aladdinXT. just wanted to know whats the difference between the 1mb and 2mb versions. and by modding it i will be able to run homebrew software on the xbox right?
