Posted: Mon Feb 20, 2006 10:16 am Post subject: Soft Mod Error By Experienced Installer Needs Help
I have sucessfully completed 3 softmods prior. I had a brainfart or was wearing the a$$hat when attempting a 4th. Without thinking and backing up my C, I just launched Install Soft Mod. I rebooted and got Error 21.
I can boot and play games only.
I can't boot either A.I.D. 2.1, Slayers Evo X Installer, or X Box Ultimate CD.
What can I do to remedy this?
From what I have tried to find out, the last resort is to have someone with a chipped X-Box try and restore the Hard Drive.
Is there anything else I can try before that? I do have XBOXHDM tools and know how to create linux boot discs so I can unlock/lock HD and rebuild HD from scratch. How can I create a disc if I didn't back up my C nor the EEPROM?
I also have a stock original xbox from another unit that I thought (wishing for a miracle) I could somehow use but that did not work.
Any help would be appreciated.

Pirrup, thanks for response. I tried restoring it like you said prior to my post with no sucess. If I try to load it again through Splinter Cell, it doesn't find the save on the hard disk nor does it see or search the files on the AR Memory stick I have so instead of seeing "Linux" I now only see the default "Sam" game save.
I have MechAssault and the files for that too and can get them on the AR Memory Stick. If I start the game would it look at the Memory Stick for the files?

Pirrup,
I tried this 5 times but each time is says hard drive is locked. I followed instructions to a tee. I download the msfile that you provided. I made the linux boot disc. I followed all the steps but it still says drive is locked.
Any clues as to why I still get the hard drive locked?

try it with a game in it...as soon as game starts make the swap....worked for me... _________________
