This server will be taken offline for a short period of time for server maintenance. This will happen within 1 - 2 hours of this posting.
We will be working on some hardware and software upgrades to increase the performance of all xbox-hq related sites on this server in the next coming weeks.

I am sorry it was done much sooner than I expected.
The good news is this:
The new hotswap backup drive is now already installed and guess what The speed improvement for all drives in the system is much better than expected.
Before we had RAID for the system with SATA but the backup drive was IDE/ATA133. Apparently this drive was slowing the system even while not in use.
Before the SATA bus was only getting a 95 MB sustained data transfer internally now it is a full whopping 146 MB a second sustained. The old IDE drive for backups was only getting 17 MB sustained data transfer and was causing wicked high IO/Wait states that translate into a drain on processing power. Now all drives operate at a sustained rate of 146MB second and this is 50% better than the expected 5 times data transfer and speed improvement we thought we would get by getting rid of the IDE drive.
What a great move!
Next we will be increasing the ram from 2GB DDR ECC to 4GB DDR3 ECC but this will happen later in the week and I will post a notice with more advanced warning than the drive upgrade. Sorry about that.
Since we have a nice SATA RAID controller install and we ditched the IDE drive we can now consider going to the Linux kernel 2.6+ which is faster for the operating system and has better security support! I have been watching how the server is working with the new drive. There are some big software updates going on right now that normally effect these sites but everything seems to be flowing quite well. That's quite good since you are in Canada. In my browser I am getting an easy less than a second on average now. sweet stuff.

Holy smokes! Data transfer for the SATA has hit 206.22 MB per second. That's the best so far. I have never seen this good before except on the 320MB/sec SCSI drives which max at just about 200GB sustained transfer.
Ain't this exciting!
I thought these were SATA150 but they must be SATA300. It has to be. There is no other way to explain this level of drive performance.
Just wait to we go with the 2.6+ Linux kernel. There are improvements especially for SATA RAID.
