I am trying to connect my pc to my xbox, i have a ethernet card and a network card, i dont know what the hell the difference is and i dont have either one installed, which one is better? anywayz my main problem is these cards were given to me without any kind of documentation or driver disks or any cool shit like that, so i have no idea as to what kind of ethernet card it is and when i install it it is detected by windows 98 as a pci ethernet controller however win98 cannot find any drivers for it, as for the network card the label on the package says 3COM so i know its a 3COM product i just dont know exactly what card it is as win98 cannot find any drivers for it either, someone please help me as i dont have the money to buy a new ethernet card or network card at the moment and i would really like to start taking advantage of my newly softmodded xbox now as opposed to later this month.

Hi tormentorofsouls666,

What i would do is this.
1. Install the 3Com Network (Ethernet) Card - (They are the same thing).
2. Go to: http://www.driversguide.com with a web browser
3. Login as a member using:

username: drivers
password: all

4. Do a search for all 3com drivers that are pretty old... Download any 3com Windows 98 drivers and test until you get one that works..

Im sure you will get it.. Alot of 3com drivers are the same from memory.

btw.. Try upgrading to WINDOWS XP sometime eh.. It would have found it automatically.

sorry tormentorofsouls666 ive been doing a little research and you might have to try older drivers that i found on the 3com site, they might work compared to the ones that were issued in 2001, then you might not the write error.

well i upgraded to xp and now ive got more problems lol, well anyways i have a problem activating my xp, my buddy gave me his copy of the xp upgrade because he had to purchase the full version of xp to fix his pc, the disc i used is the windows xp home edition upgrade, and apparently the cd key provided was already activated too many times for me to use it again, is there any way around this preferably legal, and also now the damn card is coming up as something different in xp (I may have had the wrong packaging for the card) but now it is coming up as a Macronix MX98715-Based Ethernet Adapter (Generic) and it still needs the drivers upgraded, if any one can help i would be very appreciative, and im sorry for all the problems im causing with my stupididty, dont feel bad guys i want to hit me in the face too lol

I've got a legal copy of the xp upgrade, my buddy purchased it but had to reinstall it on his pc, he didnt have a qualifier for it so he bought the full version, so he didnt need the xp upgrade so he gave it to me, the only problem is he used his key that came with it to activate a couple pcs he had and now it says the key activation has been exceeded, im using a legal copy i just cant activate it and iwas wondering if anyone knew if i could activate it somehow, i want to do it legally but at the same time im not gonna have the money to spend on a new copy of xp for a while and i need it to use these damn network cards and shit

your best bet is to contact microsoft and tell them that you got the original disk etc etc an you cant activate it.
