Posted: Tue Jan 17, 2006 5:26 am Post subject: Xbox is dead, and now..How can I get info from 160 gig hdd??
Anyway, guys, I'm not an extreme newbie, but here it is:
I've modded my xbox and softmod installer 2 and upgraded hdd with 160 gig using hdmaker, where I have some pictures of my family and stuff...Silly me I lost backup of eeprom and the CD withh the Hdmaker image.
My xbox has died, due to some beer or something and other beatings, so now it just won't boot or it will boot but will freeze and I know it's not the hdd but the motherboard.
My question is: How can I unlock the 160 gig hdd since my xbox won't boot up???I still have the retail drive from old xbox but since i'ts locked I also can't read it on pc with the tools I need.
I have read the thread about hotswapping but I think it assumes that the same xbox is being used not a different one.

there's a tool in the downloads section that allows you to unlock your hdd completely, but if you used the hdmaker, and it was called "xboxhdm" than your master password to unlock is XBOXSCENE, and you should be fine, if not use that tool I mentioned, but it's not garanteed to keep your data intact _________________ Xbox v1.1

I went thru hell with a hdd and lock unlock
easiest way i found was to put in chipped
xbox and unlock with the utilz from chip.( x2.6)
If you got a buddy with a chipped box
I'm sure you can just swop them out
and unlock the hdd.

Ok, thanks guys, thnaks alot....How do I do it with a chipped xbox??
Do I just put my hdd into the chipped box and boot up???
or do I have to hot swap???
Also, if I use hdunlock to unlock it via pc would when It asks for password I know it was XBOXSCENE from when I did it hdlock, so do I just write XBOXSCENE.....I thought it would need the long password which configmagic gives you as hd password...it's like 16 hex numbers..

if you used xboxhdm to creat the drive then just load xboxhdm choose option 4 (assuming you have the dos utility disk, otherwise your going to have to go make it again using option 1) then when you get to the dos prompt type in atapw it will load the proggy and select the drive your trying to unlock with XBOXSCENE and type that in as the master pass....now thats all assuming you did use xboxhdm to creat the drive in the first place and lock it....

You can't just put the 160 Gig in a different XBox even if it's modded. The 160Gig is locked to the dead Mobo, and no other mobo will be able to access the drive.

and jabroni, if I put it in a chipped xbox, it still wouldn't work???
since the chipped xbox boots from the chip's bios not the ms bios??
just curious about this??
also question...off topic but someone might read it..
what can I use from this dead mobo???
could i maybe use the ram chips??they are samsung I hear and read you can up your ram to 128...don't know if it's worth it but just askin??

Nope, it still won't work in a modded XBox. Your only hope of reviving the HDD is to know the Master Password or have the Eeprom from your dead mobo.

Oh, I forgot to say...If you used XBoxHDM to lock the HDD, and still can't get it to unlock, you can send it here & I'll unlock it for ya, but I'll charge a fee, and you'd have to pay shipping both ways.

Well, I tried to unlock it like Ferran said with atapw and it told me that it was unlocked, however, when I checked it with xboxhdm 1 in menu it told me it was locked...I tried to unlock it also with unlockx and unlockhd from the same utilities but it will tell me it's unlocked but it's not....really strange...
Anyways, I know it didn't unlock because, I booted up windows xp and didn't detect it and then I used HWinfo32 and it's telling me that security is Enabled where my regular drives are not enabled...
strange..

15 Bux to unlock it, and whatever it would cost to ship it both ways. I'd say roughly 22-23 bux total. Oh yeah, I'm in Kentucky.
