I have an old xbox, from before 2003, and i my friend gave it to me because he tried to do some shit on it and erased somthin, maybe the hard drive, the thing is when ever u start it up it just come up wiht an error message. I was wondering if there is any easy way to reinstall teh xbox software on it?

the easiest way would be to install a solderless modchip....load the files you need back on there and then remove it...if that is not the case then pirrups hotswap may be possible....let us know if you have a solderless chip available to you....later. _________________ Xbox V1.6

What about using actionreplay memory card to install linux, can taht work, i don't really have the tools for mod chips. It was just a free xbox to me, I don't want to spend any money on it.

If you can not load any retail games then you will not be able to use action replay and i guess you dont have a friend with a solderless chip around so that possibility is out of the question....you may want to look for pirrups hotswap tutorial on this site and see if that can help you out but i believe you have to have certain files backed up in order for that to work which you wouldnt if it was just given to you....therefore i believe a modchip may be your only choice....do you have any clue as to the version of the chip?.....i do not have any spare chips around here to fix it for you so i am sorry...you may want to contact da-goat as he could probably put a chip in and restore it back to factory but that would cost you some money for his services as well as shipping.....just throwing some options out there if the hotswap doesnt work....if you are interested in selling it PM me the details and we can go from there....later.

I found out the error, i think its error 14, I talked to my friend and he said that he thinks he only deleted the dash bord when he was on it wiht linux, so if u think that will make anything easier just drop me post.
