Posted: Tue Jan 10, 2006 1:25 am Post subject: Can't Connect to Live Problem Fixed [Tutorial]
Tutorial
For some reason, when you install SID4, it changes your original MS Dash network settings. So to fix these, turn off and unplug your Xbox for about 4 hours so the clock requires to be set. Now plug in and turn on your Xbox using the main power button (not the disc eject button), set the clock to the proper time, but don't turn off your Xbox when you reach the MS dash main menu. Instead, go into settings, and then into network. Correctly set all of the network settings for your internet service (username, password, ect.). Back out to the main MS Dash menu. Now, shut down your Xbox using the main power button, and then start it up using the disc eject button.
Now that you have the correct network settings, you should be able to connect to Live. I hope this helps everyone, it took me three days to figure out the problem.
Update
I found out that after you follow my tutorial and enter the correct settings, if you enter your modded dashboard (UnleashX or EvoX), it just resets them again. So if you wanna continue to play online, don't enter your modded dashboard, otherwise you'll have to unplug your Xbox for another four hours in order to change the settings back again. So when starting up your Xbox (after you followed my tutorial), use the disc eject button only, and when you're done playing a game on Live, don't press the disc eject button otherwise it'll bring you to the modded dashboard. Instead, shut off the console using the main power button, and then start it up using the disc eject button so you can remove the disc without it bringing you to the modded dash.
I hope Nknave and the other people working on the next SID fix this problem, it's really annoying.
Things Not to Do
After you've waited for four hours and plug back in your Xbox, don't start-up the console using the disc eject button. Use the main power button. To see if you started it up right, check to see if the LED light is red when you reach the MS Dashboard.
After you're done playing a game, don't eject the disc, otherwise it'll bring you to your modded dash. Instead power down the Xbox using the main power button, then startup your Xbox using the disc eject button so you can remove the game without it bringing you to the modded dashboard.

You didn't read what I posted. I said shut it off for four hours so your clock needs to be set. After you set the clock to the time you want, it'll then take you to the original Xbox Dashboard. Then go into settings, and then go into network and set them to the settings you need in order to connect to Live.

Re-Read the First Post
I edited my first post with an updated tutorial and something else I figured out. Also, I forgot to say unplug your Xbox for four hours, that's why you guys were confused, sorry about that.

I added a new part of the tutorial on things not to do, and I edited the main tutorial a little, so give it a re-read.

Thx for the Enthusiasm, but SID 4.5 will retail boot to Live Dash instead of MS Dash, so all these issues are no longer there. _________________ Xbox v1.1

Cool, I'll let you know if I find anything to fix on 4.5. By the way, when do you think it'll be released?

I just realized another problem with that. If it boots to the Live Dash, then people can't access their MS Dash user settings (such as video display to choose between widescreen mode and normal display, and they won't be able to access their sound settings either).
Also, for some reason you can't change the video display in your modded dash (UnleashX, EvoX), so not being able to access the original MS Dash user settings could cause people problems (example, I'm planning on getting a widescreen TV and right now my video display is set to normal, so if I can't access those settings, then I won't be able to play games in widescreen mode).

booting to Xbox Live Dash allows you to do all Xbox Live needs, if you boot your softmod, then run MS Dash while modded, your settings from there will be saved, so yes, your video settings, etc will be aviable for customization.
Sorry, but we can't do things to perfection, if you were to do some research on this, you'll see that you can't just have both at once, on the other hand you can select what to boot with another installer I made, but it's only in beta stage, and will never fit on 8 mb memory card.
let me explain a little bit here.
xboxdash.xbe (xonlindash.xbe from special 4920 dash) loads fonts from xodash\Xbox.xtf to load \???\???.xbe (nkpatcher or dual boot xbe)
if you were to load ms dash normally like in SID 4, it will do this.
msdash.xbe>fonts\Xbox.xtf Xbox Book.xtf>C:\~same font names~>checksums the file \xodash\xonlinedash.xbe (if file is not retail, it will load error 21!).
since it is retail, it's all good, but when you try to run LIVE TAB, or Network Settings, it's this.
\xodash\xonlinedash.xbe>xodash\Xbox.xtf......OOPS!! TRIES TO LOAD THE SOFTMOD AGAIN, AND FINDS OUT, thatn the xboxdash.xbe on C:\ is not from dash 5960.
Bam!! black screen freeze.
the only way to be able to use the live dash, is to change the xodash\Xbox.xtf font target, and since our xboxdash.xbe is not 5960, we must now name it xb1xdash.xbe so it checksums correctly.
wait??? doesn't hexing break the signature???? YES IT DOES!.
we patch with FuckMS and signed with habibi, this way, after it's loaded, it patches back the default kernel, so it's back to normal after all has been loaded.
so you can't use xb1xdash.xbe for ms dash, then try to load live tab to load xodash\xonlindash.xbe, cause of fonts issues, now if we were to change it all to load up x0nlidash.xbe with fixed targets, it will not load, since we already patched the ms key back, and it can't be loaded as habibi, long story short.
Please do some research on www.xbox-scene.com for dev issues, and you'll see why it's not that easy. _________________ Xbox v1.1

Thx for the comments, as for Making SID for the Xbox 360..........nah, i'm not interested on the 360 at all, as matter of fact, I don't think i'll ever buy it, unless I see some serious work, and halo 3 of course
PS3 still in doubt, but I have to see what they'll deliver.
If anyone is to make SID for the 360, I think it could be DJB, but I doubt he want's to mess with his 360 he just got. _________________ Xbox v1.1
