Well, that is called an optical or TOS link cable. You need to make certain that your AMP supports optical inputs and Dolby Digital decoding (oh, and it isn't 5.1 DTS, it is version 2.0 DTS _or_ Dolby Digital 5.1, they are two different standards). Once you plug that in, you should be able to select dolby source (most XBox games support 5.1 and are awesome). You need to enable dolby digital in the dashbard and also enable digital (default is analog) in XBMC in one of the audio and video setup menus (and you can also then have XBMC clone your normal stereo audio to the other surround sound speakers if you want). Try a movie that is in dolby digital or DTS as well (isn't it awesome that XBMC supports full progressive upsampling and dolby digital on DVD play back, something the original xbox just decided NOT to, even with the DVD playback kit for some stupid reason?!?).

Fanstastic that is what I was looking for thank you soo very much
I did not know if it was any real special cable made just for the XB
and did not want to fry or messed up anything.
Would you know the cable needed to get HD that connects to the
Rat Tail?

You mean the HiDef component output? There are several cables made. The cheapest is probably the Microsoft HD cable one for $19. It has both the digital TOS link optical output and Component connections.

hey guys,
Just to add to this topic.. Ive got a really nice 5.1/DTS surround system and i can tell you right now that not one of the XBOX GAMES have true 5.1 surround.. They only seem to have 2.0 surround DOLBY as my amp picks up on everything.. Even my satellite tv is 5.1 for movies but the xbox is definately not.
Another thing i thought id mention is even after playing for ages nothing really came out in true 5.1 as my amp would have told me so..
When i got my xbox360 and turned it on and plugged it into my amp you should see my amp lite up.. 5.1 surround with blue flashing lights.. Thats true 5.1..

Hum...that's strange, FH. Are you sure you have set your original XBox to Dolby Digital (not just Dolby Surround) in the MS Dashboard? Because I have a full 5.1 receiver, and it has always detected most XBox games as full Dobly 5.1 Digital (once I hooked up the optical connection and set the sound in the MSDash to Dolby Digital). Also, I'm getting movies that are Dolby 5.1 Digital to play in XBMC (once you change it from Analog to Digital)...

I know its weird man but i have setup totally and it still doesnt lite up my $1000 AMPLIFIER like my satellite receiver or 360 does.. Its shows TRUE 5.1 surround for 360 or dvd's etc etc.. But whenever i boot my XBOX with fibre optic cable etc etc and hidef pack it just says dolby surround..?
I thought they obviously didnt support it 100%.. Ive noticed a huge difference between the xbox and 360.. The 360 surround is unbelievable..

cuz i have a onkyo tr 701 and its over $1500 ... have 6 speakrs... 1 subwoofer $600 another brand.. AND IM HEARIN PERFECT SOUND... and the funny thing is IM NOT EVEN USIGN HIGH DEF DIGITAL CABLES like ms hidef /digital sound Or monstesr set.. I ONLY have rca s video... BUT THE TRICK TO IT is that ur amp HAS to accept tv source IF IT DOES THEN BINGO u get perfect sound as if it was DIGITAL no matter what cable.....

put it this way guys.. Im not saying you are wrong but i have yet to see it in true dolby 5.1 surround.... I have firbe optic cable just like all my accessories etc etc and my amp is not too bad.. It doesnt lie either.
Maybe PAL xboxes dont support full 5.1 or something just like they dont have the opton for HDTV unless you change to NTSC using ENIGMAH VIDEO SELECTOR..
Ill still test it out though.. very soon actually!
i can say that from my own experience, the xbox doesnt support full 5.1 dolby digital.
gus, from what it looks like your saying, you are plugging your xbox into your tv sound system then from there plugging the audio out into your amp. all that would do is prove that your tv is compatable. _________________ XCM Halo 2 blue case
