Iv'e just "installed" my X3CE chip on my XBOX 1.6 using the pinheader. After putting it all together and trying to boot the chip shows that it has 5v and 3.3v power and that the flash is unlocked. The HDD and LAN lights work but the little X light on the case is always red not matter how i try to start it (power and eject, power short and power long etc). The XBOX still runs games normally but i just can't get it to boot the chip. Ideas from those in the know very much appreciated.

Yeah, I'm having that same issue now, Weasel. It's a 1.6, and I used the rebuild PCB. Everything checks out but the chip doesn't boot. I'm assuming it's that d0 point, since the Xbox still works fine normally. The last time I tried messing around with the d0 point though, I pulled a trace and had to scrap the system.

Damn. I've got an X3 CE and a v1.6 system myself I'm trying to do for a friend. It will power on with the chip disabled just fine to the MSDash, but I just get a blank screen when trying to boot the chip. I have multiple chips and tried a different one, but it didn't work either. Even desoldered the whole LPC rebuild PCB, and put a new one on. Ohmed out most of the traces I could get to and convinced myself that I have connection to all the rebuild points just fine (traced the D0 point over to another point on the board, ohmed it out to the D0 wire on top of the LPC rebuild PCB, and it is rock solid). But it doesn't boot the X3 CE (even tried to boot to back up BIOS). Has 5v and 3.3v lights good, just no go (no games, no cromwell flash bios, nothing).

Any ideas???? Help before I go out of my mind. Maybe I'll remove the whole solder deal and order a different chip with solderless adapter and see if that works. Sigh.

Hopefully I just found the solution (not sure why trying to boot to the backup wouldn't work and 2 separate virgin chips both were bunk). I'm about to go try to pop a fully flashed and working X3 CE into that 1.6b board and see if it fixes the problems. I'm 99% certain that the solder job is flawless.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Very Happy Shocked It mother-f!#$@!@#$KING worked!!! Very Happy Shocked

WHOOO-HOOO!

I am SO glad I decided to wait before desoldering that LPC rebuild PCB a THIRD time and trying just a plain WIRE install. I KNEW the solder job was good (sure...after staying up until 2:30AM last night ohming stuff out, trying it...no good...solder again...try it...no good). GGGRRRRR! Just to find out it was a funky BIOS issue that seems to exist with these v1.6 boards. Basically, it would power on/off, on/off, finally power up FRAG. Or it wouldn't display anything at all when chip was enabled. And that was after I tried TWO different virgin X3 CE chips. And tried to boot to every combo of the bios as well as the backup ROM...all with no luck.

Solution was to just flash the chip to a v1.6 BIOS in a known working 1.0 mod box, swap it into the v1.6 and presto! *slaps self on forehead*

Merry Freaking Xmas!
