No, there isn't one. The Xbox isn't powerful enough to emulate a Dreamcast. Have you seen the PSX emulated on a Xbox? Let's say, MGS? It's slow, and really buggy. There's just not enough processing power to emulate a Dreamcast. There needs to be at least three times the original Hardware strength under the hood in order to properly emulate any system. So, if you wanted to emulate an XBox, you'd need at least 2100 MGHz, and at least 500 megs of video RAM. Get what I'm saying? The 360 might be able to emualte some of the better systems of old (Dreamcast for example) and finally perfect those that we wanted finished (64, PSX). Just keep lookin' the future, my friend.

I wanted a dc emulator too but realised that the xbox wasnt fast enough as well. Dam sucks that does..

hopefully the nextgen console will open the door for some wicked emulators.

CHANKAST was the pc emu of dc i was trying to get sourcecode for.. I was loking at making it a project myself but then realised how poor the emulation would be.

cheers,

FH

Well, with the power of dual core (and triple dual core in the 360 and PS3) emulation of current gen systems should not be a problem at all. The RAM in both PC's and next-gen consoles is insane, and the processors are going to be ungodly powerful. So emulating a single processor, single core system shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Hopefully someone will be able to finish the uncompleted Xbox and PS2 emulators of old. I'll be getting a dual core processor once I order my new mobo, and I will be getting the pimped out 360 for the holidays. So, I volunteer now for any modding tests that DJB or pirrup (or anyone else) wants to go with. AID 4.0? Please god, please!!!

The Xbox is powerful enough to run a dreamcast emulator, but the right person with the tallent and documentation would have to do it. The only reason I say this is that the xbox is more than 3 closer to 4 times as powerful as the Dreamcast. and you can't use PSX as an example as not only did a PSX EMU run fine on the DC but it actualy improved the quality of the games as well.

while these may not be perfect, they are close. I think the Xbox has more than enough power to emulate a Dreamcast by the 3 times argument. And no I can't do it either,,, wished I could, but Im an electronics guy not a softwere guy. Anywho look at this to get an idea of the different amounts of power.

compare these:

Playstation Specs.
Power - 32 bit running at 33.87 mhz Risc system similar to an Apple Mac.
Onboard RAM - 2 Mb.
Resolution -640 x 480.
3d graphics performance - 360 000 polygans a second

Nintendo 64 specs:

Processing Power: - 64-bit R4300i RISC (93.75MHz) co-processor 64-bit RISC (62.5MHz)
Onboard Memory - 4MB (36Mb) upgradeable
Resolution: 640x480
3d Graphics performance 150,000 polygons per second

Dreamcast specs.
Processing Power - 128/64 bit hybrid running at 200mhz.
Onboard Memory - 16 Mb.
Resolution 680 x 480.
3d Graphics Power - 3 million ploygons a second

Xbox
Processing Power - 733MHz inel CPU and a 250MHz XGPU
Onboard Memory - 64Mb.
Resolution Max: 1920x1080
3d Graphics Power - 100+ million Polygons a second

I know this topic is a bit musty, but I have to say that the reason PSX emulators are a bit slow has nothing to do with hardware. It's all to do with software. It is nigh on impossible to perfectly emulate a PSX, but if you did, it would run exactly the same as a PSX, if not better. Please, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

why even bother with a Dreamcast emulator? just buy a Dreamcast, they are dirt cheap on ebay, Ive had my Dreamcast for a few years now, and btw, certain versions of Dreamcast can run your backed up games without any modifications.

I stand corrected (and never have a problem doing so). Perhaps someone woul dbe able to write a great enough emu for the dreamcast (that works great on the box). But with the 360 coming out, the emulation we've been wanting for so long will finally be here.

Who knows, maybe you, Turn2, will become a emulation masta and create the best emus out there Very Happy.

Thanks for the thought but, I doubt it,,,,, I started my first programming back in 84 and I got tired of it real quick. I took some C+ classes back in 2003 and still didn't care for it. I retained just enough for stuff to make sense when I look at it, but I couldn’t come up with something off the top of my head to save my life. The reason I got into electronics is the fact that I like to tinker with things,,,,but that is a dieing profession as well, as most everything produced today is easier to change a board than diagnose it and then fix it on a component level. But the good thing is that electronics gives you the skills to be in maintenance for modern factories these days, and that pays more than plain old electronics in today’s market place.

Sorry that was a bit long wasn't it.

Eh, just an idea, m8. Someone abitious enough, hopefully, will manufacture an great emulator for the 360 (maybe an All In One for some consoles, current gen and such). I just can't wait to see what kind of power is unlocked with the PS3 and Xbox 360. We all know the PS3 will be modded, and it might, actually, rival the 360 in that level. the power is just there.

As far as electronics, I know what you mean. I'm mostly software/web chit. When it comes down to the hardware, I know (now) how to solder, replace any board, and other components to build or upgrade, but as far as how everything works... I'm screwed.
