I've done several soft mods, and currently I'm just trying to use the softmod exploit to get a chipped box to a dash board with FTP and File Explorer support (don't ask...for some reason this box I have now will NOT read ANY media version of AID 2.11F I try). I managed to copy the Mech Assault save game exploit over to the HDD (it just has a stock MSDash) via the memory control panel.
Here's the kicker, when I run the MA game, and try to load the "Run Linux" SID 3.0 exploit, it pauses while loading, and then the Mech Assault game splash screen starts up again. For some reason it just keeps looping to restart the game when you load the save game. I'll try to retransfer the exploit from scratch, but that seemed wierd to me.

Just a suggestion here, make sure its the old version of the game you are trying to boot from. I did a softmod for a mate with Splinter Cell, but it was actually the newer version from the classics range, and would not boot the SID. I Used the original (oldest) SC and all went smoothly _________________

you will need to disable the chip before running SID on it
GAH!! Really!?!? Wow...that has never come up! Thanks! As it was, I just popped the cover and hooked the drive up temporarily to my X3 box to get native FTP support and put the proper files back on the drive. But this would have been much easier...never thought of disabling the chip! Thanks, Pirrup!
