OK, so when I find a memory stick that works with my XBox, I'm going to
try the softmod using Splinter Cell... I just want to double check the
sequence (having read a couple of guides that differ slightly) :-
a) load the save game, which launches UnleashX.
b) Select "Create MS Backup".
First question : does the MS backup inlucde the EEPROM data? as this
(http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-183.html) guide says the next step
should be "Create MOD Backup", which will backup the EEPROM.
so is it then :
c) Create MOD Backup.
d) Install Softmod.
e) Install dashboard (Evox/UnleashX)
f) Power off, power on (eject disk)... Evox/UnleashX boots.
OR :
c) Install Softmod.
d) Install dashboard (Evox/UnleashX)
e) Create MOD Backup.
f) Power off, power on (eject disk)... Evox/UnleashX boots.
And then of course, boot AID 2.11 and follow these steps (from DJB's post) :-
1) Delete ALL files from C drive (FTP or file manager)
2) Install MS Dash from AID (is this a hacked MS Dash?)
3) power off/on.
4) Install Softmod AGAIN (via save game exploit? i.e. as above? do the backups
again as well, or just Install Softmod/Install dash?)
5) Install hacked dash.
6) Install MS 5690 patch.
So, why would you need to do this re-install of the softmod?
If you install the softmod, but no dash, and reboot, what runs? Can you
boot an AID CD/DVD, backuped games, original games?
For my curiosity, could someone explain how the xbox boot procedure works? As
I understand it, if the HDD is unlocked, the console won't boot (error number
shown). If the HDD is locked (and unlocks OK), but there are no files on
the HDD (no dashboard), will the X-Box boot a game?
If the savegame hack is on the E: drive, can the game find these save games?
Whats the earliest point in all the above that you can ftp to the XBOX and
copy the backup and EEPROM data off the HDD (in order to build a new HDD from
scratch) ?
Many thanks for your help people!

Hi ddraig
There are some great tutorials here but try this if you use sid3
1.when you get to the sid menu backup the ms dash( a must do)
2.Go install softmod - Boot c:\ Evoxdash.xbe - Tray open ( for rollback)
3.Reboot with aid2
4.go softmod section - Install NK patcher + MS Dash - boot c: evox
5 go softmod section - install dashboard - install c: dashboard - pick a dashboard.
Hope that helps as it's been a little while since I used it.
When all is set up then you can make a complete backup of the mod as well as your eeprom ect.
Thanks for the info, I've borrowed another USB memory stick, if it works I may try this tonight...
If all goes titsup (I know, it's shouldn't!) and the HDD is toast (i.e. locked and no eeprom data to hand), will a modchip install allow the XBox to be fitted with another HDD ?
Also, how (if at all) is the EEPROM data stored on the HDD used? I would have thought that the HD unlock key has to be stored in the HW (to unlock the HDD in the first place), so why is the key available on the HDD (seems like a security flaw from M$ to me).
Cheers!

a chip can safe your ass after failing .
but my hotswap tutorial does the trick also.
the eeprom isn't stored on the hd you need evox or config magic to get the backup.
you will need to make an eeprom backup to get it .
read my tutorial under my signature _________________

you can install evox as an app , so you don't need it as a dashboard _________________
Thanks for the help. At the minute I'm still struggling to find a USB memory stick/device that works on my X-Box - at this rate I'm likely to end up buying a modchip :-/

Hi,
I got a xbox controller to PC usb cable off Ebay for £6.00 and a cheap 'interact' memory card from gamestation for £3.99 and it works a treat with SPLINTER CELL & SID V3.0 and AID 2.11 FINAL.
Use hacked Action replay software to transfer the exploits to the card.
There are tutorials on the forum here explaining the details. (you will need to use USB view to get the memory card signiture and the add it to the AR driver database on your PC)
If in doubt ask...someone will help u.
The cable is well worth buying as you can also use it for playing PC stuff like MAME.
Good Luck.

Woohoo. Got a stick that worked, and softmodded my box. I've just done the first part - i.e launch the splinter cell exploit to get SID3 and backup ms, install mod, install evox, reboot... All is well.
Now, what do I gain by doing the next step :-
4.go softmod section - Install NK patcher + MS Dash - boot c: evox
5 go softmod section - install dashboard - install c: dashboard - pick a dashboard.
?
Thanks for all the help!

lol
Not 100% sure about the other steps.
I do beleive it allows the patched ms dash and your new dash to work together.
As I have not tried to install a dash from SID alone I don't know if it will successfully work without useing patch MS 5960. _________________ xbox v1.2
